Donald Trump dropped a bombshell on Friday when he announced he is considering an “amended” version of President Barack Obama’s signature health care law instead of repealing it, marking a significant shift in his stance on this issue.
Trump told The Wall Street Journal that this shift came after Obama begged him not to repeal the Affordable Care Act during their meeting on Thursday.
“Either Obamacare will be amended, or repealed and replaced,” Trump said, according to Daily Mail. “I told him I will look at his suggestions, and out of respect, I will do that.”
Trump went on to say that he favors maintaining a prohibition on insurance companies denying consumers coverage based due to so-called pre-existing conditions. Before Obamacare, insurers had been able to deny coverage to people who had previously suffered almost any illness.
Trump also said he is not against requiring insurers to allow children to remain on their parents’ insurance policies until the age of 26, which is a key aspect of Obamacare.
This has left many Trump supporters uneasy, as Trump had promised to destroy Obamacare throughout his entire campaign. We can only hope that this isn’t the beginning of Trump submitting to Obama on a regular basis…
