After Donald Trump won the election, Ben Carson said he would be turning down a position in the president-elect’s cabinet. That’s why it came as a surprise today when Trump took to Twitter to say he is seriously considering making Carson the head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
I am seriously considering Dr. Ben Carson as the head of HUD. I’ve gotten to know him well–he’s a greatly talented person who loves people!

This came days after Carson suggested to Fox News that he has had a change of heart and would strongly consider serving in the Trump administration.
“Basically, I’ve said my preference is to be outside and to act as an adviser, but if after going through the process they all conclude it would be much better to have me in the Cabinet, I would have to give that very serious consideration,” Carson said. “It’s just not my preference.”
The mainstream media had a field day last week when Carson’s business manager, Armstrong Williams, said that he was not seeing a job in Trump’s administration due to his lack of experience in government. This struck many as odd, since Carson had run for president himself.
“Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he’s never run a federal agency,” Williams told The Hill on Tuesday. “The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency.”
Later that day, Carson backtracked on this in a Facebook post.
“My decision not to seek a Cabinet position in the Trump administration has nothing to do with the complexity of the job as is being reported by some news outlets,” Carson wrote.
