It is hard enough completing the Boston Marathon running the whole time. To do the 26 miles in under 6 hours (that’s an incredible 4 minutes and 30 seconds a mile!) while carrying a huge American flag hoisted above you, is a truly Olympian feat.
Of course, it has been left to a United States Marine to perform such an impressive act and he did so with one artificial leg!
MRCTV has posted the story of former Marine Jose Sanchez’s accomplishment and it is an inspiring tale of the struggle over adversity.
Sanchez, MRCTV writes, “was injured after stepping on an IED while serving in Afghanistan in 2011.”
While he sat in a hospital recovering from painful wounds and the loss of his right leg, his fellow Marines visited him and gave him a gift. Sanchez said he was “too messed up” to even open it.
Five years passed and when Sanchez did unwrap the gift, he saw a large American flag signed by his buddies and included motivational phrases.
“Instead of putting it away, I wanted to fly this flag again in their honor,” Sanchez told WBZ-TV. “It’s for others to be inspired, to be motivated. I don’t do it for myself. We live for others. I’ve learned that throughout being angry, and frustrated, and with all that PTSD. I’m channeling it to be positive and to give back to whatever I have taken away from the community.”
Mission accomplished Marine! America is made better by people like you!
