Sean Hannity has found himself in hot water with Fox News this week after he cited some election polls that the network claims are “unscientific.”
According to Business Insider, Hannity cited a series of online polls in claiming that Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in last week’s presidential debate. Dana Blanton, vice president of public-opinion research at Fox News, sent out a memo to network producers that unscientific online polls “do not meet our editorial standards” and should not be used on air.
Hannity, however, ignored this memo and continued to cite the polls. He continued to do so until last Friday, causing Washington Post media critic Erik Wemple to suggest that he is “100% beyond the reach of Fox News management.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised to find that in its next annual report, 21st Century Fox will report that the ‘Hannity’ show at some point in the 2016 cycle was spun off as an independent company separate from Fox News,” Wemple told Business Insider. “He’s running his own fiefdom, his own shop, his own news network.”
Despite the backlash from Fox, Hannity was still sticking to his guns as late as last Thursday.
“I know that people hate when I cite online polling,” Hannity acknowledged on his Thursday program. “But when you see The Hill and you see Slate and, these are not mainstream conservative polling or websites. And when they vote after a debate so overwhelmingly for Trump, it’s telling me something.”
A Fox News host who refused to be named told Business Insider that he or she characterized Hannity’s show as “an extension” of the Trump apparatus.
“I imagine that he is wanting to be helpful to Donald Trump as an extension of the campaign,” the host said when asked about Hannity’s refusal to stop citing the unscientific polls, “but if Hillary Clinton had won any of those online polls, he probably would not have touted them.”
Sounds an awful lot like Megyn Kelly to us…
Frankly, we’re sick of seeing Hannity get backlash just for supporting Trump. The liberal media is constantly rigging polls in Clinton’s favor, so to see Hannity get heat for this is totally ridiculous.
