Actor Tim Allen had his popular show “Last Man Standing” abruptly cancelled on May 16 for reasons that fans of the show say are related to the right-of-center theme of the show and Allen’s political views.
Fox News reported that “’Last Man Standing’ was the network’s second-highest comedy this season and averaged 8.1 million viewers, just behind ‘Modern Family,’ which averaged 8.7 million viewers this season and was recently renewed for two more seasons. It was also ABC’s third highest watched scripted series behind ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Modern Family.’”
ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey tried to explain away the show’s demise to a corporate decision to do away with “comedies on Friday.” No explanation as to the rationale of that claim was offered.
Allen took to Twitter later in the day of May 16 to post the following, “Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years.”
Fans immediately replied with outrage.
Vickie Mealus wrote, “I am furious! Just heard ABC canceled Last Man Standing! My husband and I love the show and Tim Allen. We will boycott ABC!”
Richard Phallan responded by saying, “I’m with you. Don’t watch much on ABC anyway. This was the only show I liked. Libs at Disney HQ are killing this network as well as ESPN.”
Talk also surfaced of boycotting the network.
Virginia Vega Carter tweeted, “it’s time for us to act…we are letting the leftists run this country…let’s start boycotting ABC.”
Fans continue to write and tweet their displeasure and an online petition to save the show has three hundred and thirty thousand signatures already.
ABC is owned by the Disney company, whose CEO Bob Iger is rumored to be a potential Democrat politician, and we all know how open-minded Democrats are.
