Former President Donald Trump took time to reach out this week to the mother of Rachel Morin, who was ruthlessly raped and then murdered by an illegal immigrant from El Salvador on Thursday.

The condolences expressed by the former president and presumptive GOP nominee left Patty Morin “deeply touched” by his “honest compassion,” while the grieving mother also ripped President Joe Biden and his Department of Homeland Security secretary after he referred to Rachel as an “individual” killed by the suspected gang member.

The New York Post reported that Trump spoke to Patty about Rachel, who was a 37-year-old mother of five and was senselessly killed while hiking on a trail last August in Harford County, Md.

“I am deeply touched by President Trump’s kindness and concern,” the grieving mother said in a statement to The Post regarding the call.

“He was genuine and truly wanted to know how our family was coping,” she added. “He asked about Rachel and showed honest compassion for her untimely death. His words brought comfort to me during this very difficult time.”

The Post added:

Officers with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and other law enforcement agencies arrested Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, 23, on Friday for Rachel’s murder. Martinez-Hernandez is an undocumented immigrant who illegally crossed the border four times last year and had been wanted for assaulting a mom and young girl during a home break-in in Los Angeles. His arrest reignited debates over the besieged southern border.

Morin family attorney Randolph Rice said that Rachel’s death ought to be a wake-up call to lawmakers and the Biden regime to get serious about border security.

“The need to take immediate action at the border and shutting down the unrelenting flow of illegal immigrants is common sense policy because it protects Americans from future crimes,” Rice said in a statement. “If we can prevent even one murder by an illegal immigrant, then it is well worth it,” he added.

On Tuesday, during a CNN interview, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was questioned about Rachel’s murder and criticism of the administration’s policies linked to violent crimes by migrants. Mayorkas referred to Rachel as “the individual,” a term that prompted Patty to appear on Fox News the next day to criticize the DHS chief for his choice of words, The Post noted.

“It totally depersonalizes her and makes her an object,” said Patty, who also told Fox that nobody from the Biden administration had bothered to contact her to check on the grieving family after Martinez-Hernandez was arrested.

The report noted further that the suspect was arrested at a Tulsa, Okla., sports bar on Friday. He has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape.

Earlier this month, the GOP-controlled House passed a measure that would require the federal government to deport any illegal immigrant who assaults a police officer over the objections of a majority of Democrats. The legislation passed with a vote of 265 to 148, with 54 Democrats siding with the GOP.

The Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act is the name of the legislation, which Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., is leading. In February, when the measure was introduced, he said: “There is no reason that an illegal alien who attacks our law enforcement should remain in our country; that shows zero respect for our rule of law or our institutions, and they will not be positive contributors to society.”

The bill mandates that federal authorities hold illegal immigrants in custody until deportation. It also establishes a new category of migrant inadmissibility, specifically targeting illegal immigrants accused of assaulting police, according to Van Drew.

Trump has made reversing Biden’s atrocious open-border policies a priority if he wins in November. He has also threatened mass deportation, which polling shows most Americans, including Hispanics, support.

Trump renewed the pledge in February while referring to the illegal immigrant who was arrested for the murder of a University of Georgia nursing student, Laken Riley, as a “monster.”
