Sebastian Gorka: What to Do about Putin

How do we approach the crisis in Ukraine? The innocent Ukrainians want us to intervene. Is that the right response? What is the truth about the events of the last few days in Eastern Europe?

I understand the warnings of misinformation, of propaganda. It is absolutely reasonable, given the history of the Soviet Union, the Communist heritage of that regime which is run by a former KGB colonel, and we should be incredibly careful of any information from the battlefield. Whether it is propaganda from the Kremlin, or whether it is misinformation from, perhaps, well-meaning individuals who want the West to be more involved in Ukraine, we must be very cautious with all reports from thousands of miles away.

On a personal note, I’ve had it with conservatives, or people who say they’re “conservatives,” being on the wrong side of this conflict. I’m not going to argue for troop deployments. As a former Strategist to President Trump, that’s not my rhetoric.

It’s not my belief system. We weren’t interventionists, we brought troops home under President Trump, and we got America out of what the boss called “dumb wars.” But the idea that this is irrelevant, or that this is some deep, deep ploy to embroil us in some scheme by George Soros? My response is: grow up. And remember how America was founded.

Here’s my reaction to one specific criticism some so-called conservatives had lain at my feet over the last few days. I posted a photograph of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in body armor, with the following words: “This is what a president looks like.”

And I believe that, and I stand by it, despite the fact that numerous individuals have DM’d me, have commented on my posts on all my platforms, on Truth Social, on Twitter, on Facebook, that: “Oh my gosh, that’s a photograph from three years ago!”

Here’s my response: I. Don’t. Care. I didn’t say he was in a foxhole, firing an RPG at a Russian tank. I was saying, this is a man who is leading his nation against a ruthless, bloody dictator.

Allegedly, if the reports are to be believed, our feckless Biden administration offered to evacuate the Ukrainian president, to get him out of the country and desert his people. And in his video response, he said, “I’m not leaving, because I fight for my country.” “I don’t need a ride, I need ammunition!” And that is what a president looks like. That is true leadership.

The Ukraine is an independent nation. Yes, a flawed one; but an independent nation that has been invaded on a false premise of “rampant Nazis,” of “genocide against the Russians in Ukraine.” Garbage. Lies. Just like the tanks that rolled into Hungary in 1956, where my parents lived, to crush the freedom fight that had so much of it redolent of the spirit of 1776. It’s happening again next door. Russian tanks crushing those who want to live free.

And to those Americans – I don’t know whether it’s a remnant of QAnon crazies – who are tweeting out “It’s all Soros! Why are you backing the Ukraine? Soros chose that government and he’s against Putin as well! So it must be a plot!”

Can we have some critical thought on our side, just for once? What if George Soros suddenly said, “You know what, Big Macs are better than Burger King Whoppers”? Does that mean that McDonald’s is part of some massive George Soros conspiracy? He’s gonna pick somebody in this war! That doesn’t mean the Ukrainians aren’t fighting for their freedom.

That doesn’t mean that civilian tower blocks aren’t being bombed as we speak. That doesn’t mean that 500,000 women and children haven’t been forced to flee as refugees; women and children, because the men are staying to fight. How interesting is that?

Can I just add a little inject when it comes to our country? Think of all the young, males of military age who have illegally crossed into America in the last year. Almost 2 million illegal immigrants, the majority of them men.

Interesting how Ukrainian men aren’t trying to escape. They’re actually going to the central depots to be handed automatic weapons and ammunition. Doesn’t that tell you something about the value of their culture? What does it say about men from other countries, from other cultures?

Western Civilization is the best, is the greatest, and the Ukrainian men are staying to fight for their freedom. And as a nation that witnessed 8 million of its citizens murdered by Stalin, by Moscow, by the Kremlin, in the mass starvation of the Holodomor, you can bet that they will fight to their last breath. In the cities, in the streets, in the mountains, in the forests, just as they did against Stalin’s troops. They will do it again.

And we don’t need to deploy the 82nd Airborne. That’s not what President Trump and I believe in. Let me tell you what I think needs to be done so that Ukrainians can fight for their freedom, just as we did in 1776. Because they, too, are made in the image of their Creator.

If America were helmed by a man who wasn’t senile and a hostage to The Squad’s radicalism, we would:

-Unleash our oil and gas sectors once more. Under President Trump, we were net exporters of energy, for the first time ever. In the last year, under Biden, Russia has doubled the amount of oil it sells to us as Biden shut down the XL Keystone pipeline and made money for Moscow.

– We have tens of thousands of troops stationed in illogical places, like Germany. We should move them to frontline NATO nations like the Baltics, Poland, and Hungary, to send a message to Putin that we will not allow him to re-enslave former Soviet and Warsaw nations who are now free and our treaty allies.

-Whilst Ukraine is not a NATO ally, and it is not our job to fight for the Ukrainians, we should provide targeting intelligence, arms, and munitions so they can fight for their own liberty. If formerly neutral Finland – a nation that knows about killing Russian invaders – can decide to arm Kyiv, so can we.

We are a free nation because we fought for our freedom against evil oppressors. The Ukrainians are doing the same today.
