Amid consistently poor job approval ratings for both President Joe Biden and his more unpopular vice president, Kamala Harris, Democratic voters are obviously seeing dark days ahead, politically speaking, according to newly released polling data.

As reported by the Washinton Examiner’s Paul Bedard in his “Secrets” column on Monday, “stuck with an unpopular president and a weak replacement bench, Democratic voters appear to be throwing their hands up in frustration when it comes to who they would like as their 2024 nominee.”

Bedard cited a new I&I/TIPP survey showing that just 29 percent of respondents picked Biden, while tied for second place with Harris was “Not Sure.”

Mind you, Bedard reminded readers, “that’s Biden’s base.” If Republicans and Independents are tossed into the mix, Biden drops to 19 percent in the national survey, and is handily beaten by “Not Sure” with 28 percent.

“Put another way, 81% of Americans don’t want Biden to run again,” I&I (Issues & Insights) noted, adding:

Specifically, other names on the list included (in declining order of preference) Vice President Kamala Harris (7%), Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (6%), former First Lady Michelle Obama (6%), former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton (4%), former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (3%), and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (3%).

Trailing in the preference race is a long list at 2%, including losing 2018 Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Massachusetts Rep. Joe Kennedy.

A third tier of candidates includes California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, and New Mexico Gov. Michelle Luhan Grisham, all at 1% preference.

“For a sitting president barely into his second year in office to be below 20% in the next election’s preference shows just how low Biden has dropped in the public eye. Last week’s I&I/TIPP Poll results showed that a similar level (21%) of Americans didn’t think Biden would even finish his first term, much less run for a second,” said the survey analysis.

Biden and Harris have both been polling miserably for much of the past year — precipitous declines in popularity that began within months of taking office.

Earlier this month, one Democratic insider hit the panic button over the president’s dismal polling.

“It’s bad,” an anonymous Democratic strategist said, according to The Hill. “You have an energy crisis that’s paralyzing and inflation is at a 40-year high and we’re heading into a recession. The problem is simple. The American people have lost confidence in him.”

“Everyone needs to come to terms with the reality that we’re going to get slaughtered in November,” the strategist reportedly continued. “That’s a fact. His polling has gotten worse, not better. It’s indicative of the fact that people have lost confidence in his leadership. There’s nothing they’re going to be able to do.”

Bill Galston, Chair of the Brookings Institutions governance study program and former domestic policy adviser to former President Bill Clinton, said, “unless and until inflation comes down appreciably, that there’s going to be a ceiling on his job approval that’s a lot lower than the White House wants it to be.”

There are a range of issues voters are upset with Biden/Harris over, including ever-rising inflation, a chaotic southern border, and supply chain issues.

Gallup senior editor Jeff Jones said, “high gas prices are one of the biggest anchors on presidential approval.”

Another recent survey also delivered more bad news for Biden and Democrats.

The NBC News survey, released on Sunday at the tail end of a gaffe-filled European trip that involved Biden visiting NATO to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion last month, found that the president’s approval had slipped to 40 percent, its lowest for that particular outlet since his inauguration.

In addition, the poll found an astounding 70 percent of Americans had little-to-no faith in Biden’s ability to deal with that conflict.
