As the surge of migrants continues at the Southern border it now appears that Joe Biden was warned that it would happen but continued with his plan anyway.
He was so obsessed with undoing everything that Donald Trump did that he did not care about the consequences, and now Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Tom McClintock are demanding to see the letter where the Department of Homeland Security warned him about it, Newsweek reported.
Two House Republicans are demanding documents related to reporting that President Joe Biden’s transition team was warned by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials about the possible consequences of reversing his predecessors immigration policies.
In a letter sent to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday, first shared with Newsweek, Representatives Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) accused the new administration of refusing to “accept responsibility for the growing humanitarian and security crisis.”
“As the Biden border crisis continues to worsen by the day, President Biden and his Administration refuse to accept responsibility for the growing humanitarian and security crisis the two representatives said in a letter to Mayorkas.
“This refusal to accept responsibility is startling in light of a news report that suggests the Biden Administration was warned that reversing President Trump’s successful immigration policies would lead to a surge at the border. We write to request documentation relating to these warnings.”
“DHS officials reportedly had ‘multiple briefings’ with Biden transition officials, warning them that undoing President Trump’s policies would lead to an increase in illegal immigration,” the letter states. “Instead of heeding these warnings, President Biden signed several executive orders dismantling the Trump Administration’s immigration programs and policies. The reversal of President Trump’s successful immigration policies have created a tremendous incentive for illegal aliens to surge to the southern border.”
The pair of Congressman were making reference to an NPR report that said career DHS officials had warned the Biden transition team that getting rid of Trump’s immigration policies would create a surge at the border.
Former acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf says Trump officials warned the incoming Biden administration that dismantling the Trump administration’s immigration policies would cause problems at the southern border.
The Biden administration has largely blamed the challenges at the border on the previous administration, saying it gutted the Department of Homeland Security and used inhumane practices to try to deter migrants. Biden officials describe steps they’ve taken to accept the new influx of unaccompanied minors into the country and end controversial programs that require migrants to remain in Mexico as “a moral imperative.”
But some former Trump administration leaders, such as Wolf, say the Biden administration is dismantling systems that worked.
“There is no consequence anymore,” Wolf said.
“The administration is treating this as though it’s a capacity issue and not an illegal behavior issue, and that’s a fundamental difference.”
Trump’s immigration advisor Stephen Miller said on Twitter that the Biden team had been warned.
“Maybe nobody on his staff informed him, but Biden’s DHS implemented nationwide Catch-and-Release. Illegal migrants from all over the world, in ever growing numbers, will descend on the border until the Trump policy of Detain-and-Remove is restored,” he said.
“Biden’s transition team was warned by career DHS officials that terminating our proven border security measures would lead to catastrophic consequences…they ignored those warnings and voluntarily unleashed chaos.
“By 2020 — defeating a flood of meritless years-long litigation — we had in place the most effective, rock-solid, profound border security measures ever realized. Biden inherited an unbeatable system. He then immediately shredded it & created this rapidly-escalating emergency,” he said.
But Biden believed he knew more or was simply focused on undoing what Trump had done. And now the nation faces a crisis at the border.
