First son Hunter Biden, who has been fighting the mother of a child he bore to prevent her from using his name, faces a new legal hurdle after a judge in Arkansas ordered him to appear in court regarding the case on Monday.

The order came “despite his attorneys’ effort to keep him out of the courtroom for a contempt hearing in a child support and paternity case,” Newsweek reported on Saturday.

According to court documents, a DNA test confirmed that the president’s son is the father of Lunden Roberts’ 4-year-old daughter, Navy Joan. In 2020, Hunter Biden agreed to make retroactive child support payments dating back to 2018, as reported by local CBS affiliate KFSM 5 News on Friday.

The child support and paternity case involving Hunter Biden and Lunden Roberts first arose in 2019, but was later reopened as new motions were filed by both parties, including efforts to modify the amount of child support, change the child’s last name to Biden, and require the president’s son to appear in person at the courthouse, Newsweek noted further.

Biden’s lawyers attempted to keep him from physically appearing in court by asking the judge if he could appear remotely via video or phone. However, Independence County Circuit Judge Holly Meyer rejected this request, stating that “all parties are to physically appear,” the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported on Friday.

The judge also warned that “the court will enforce those orders” for all involved parties.

Biden’s lawyer, Brent Langdon, had argued that his client should be allowed to appear remotely, citing “time, expense, logistical challenges and especially the media event any in-person hearing would create.” But Meyer rejected those arguments.

The ongoing legal battle in Arkansas is taking place in the context of a federal investigation dating back to 2018, which is aimed at determining whether the president’s son violated tax laws related to various business dealings, including with foreign clients. Prosecutors have also reportedly considered bringing charges related to Hunter Biden’s allegedly false statement about his drug use on a gun application form.

Republicans have focused heavily on the legal issues surrounding Hunter Biden, the son of the Democratic president, drawing significant scrutiny and backlash. Key GOP leaders in the House have pledged to investigate Hunter Biden’s various business dealings, while some have criticized the Department of Justice (DOJ) for not doing enough. U.S. Attorney David Weiss, a Trump appointee, is leading the DOJ’s investigation, Newsweek noted further.

Meanwhile, President Biden has been criticized recently for failing to recognize Navy Joan as his legitimate granddaughter.

“The viciousness of the Biden family in dealing with this little girl is only matched by that of the media. Reporters who profess to support women and denounce deadbeat dads have either ignored this story or belittled her mother Lunden Roberts,” George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley wrote in an op-ed published at FoxNews.com on Saturday.

Roberts is widely dismissed as a “former stripper.” That appears to be how she met Hunter, but it is often used to paint her in the same way that the media gleefully reported on former first lady Hillary Clinton denouncing the women who were involved with her husband as mere “bimbo eruptions.”

The reason the media ignores Roberts is that it wants to ignore what the Bidens have done.

Yes, Roberts was an exotic dancer. She used that job to go to one of the most expensive colleges in the country, George Washington University where I teach.

“When she became pregnant, she decided to have her child and raise her on her own. She has raised this child without a father and fought one of the most powerful families in the world,” Turley wrote, going on to note that President Biden has long been an advocate for holding “deadbeat dads” accountable until it involved his own son.

“…[T]he effort to bar this child from using the Biden name has moved this scandal from the realm of hypocrisy to monstrosity,” Turley noted.

“It is hard to imagine the pain that this child will experience upon learning of how the Bidens erased any reference to her and fought even her ability to claim to be a member of their family,” he added. “Even the Biden’s dogs and cats got stockings at Christmas but not their granddaughter Navy Joan whom they have never asked to even see, let alone support.”
