A solid majority of Democratic voters now say they want President Joe Biden to end his re-election bid and step aside after seeing him struggle in his debate last month with former President Donald Trump and since, even though national polling has the race very tight.
A significant 67% of respondents believe that Biden should withdraw from the race, and 85% think he is too old to complete a second term. At the same time, 60% of respondents also feel that former President Trump is too old for a second term, up from 44% in the spring of 2023, the poll from ABC News and the Washington Post found.
“Among Democrats and voters who said they lean Democratic, 62% say Biden needs to drop out of the race. Even among self-professed Biden supporters, 54% say he needs to drop out,” Fox News reported, citing the results.
Despite the poll’s results which bode ill for Biden, the poll found that he and Trump are nearly tied. According to the poll, 46% of respondents indicated they would vote for Biden, while 47% expressed support for Trump. The poll revealed that replacing Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee would lead to better outcomes. According to the poll, Harris received 49% support while Trump received 46%.
A leading Super PAC backing Trump’s 2024 White House bid, Make America Great Again Inc., reported raising $104 million in the second quarter of 2024 fundraising from April to June.
Additionally, MAGA Inc. noted that it has close to $114 million in cash in numbers initially told to Fox News on Friday.
The announcement comes a week and a half after Trump’s campaign revealed that it and the Republican National Committee raised an incredible $331 million over the previous three months, surpassing the enormous $264 million that the Democratic National Committee and President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign received during the same period.
A portion of Trump’s haul came from a fundraising boom that followed the former president’s historic guilty verdicts in his criminal trial this spring.
The Super PAC declared a month ago that it would assist the former president with a $100 million summertime advertising campaign in the crucial battleground states.
This coincides with a recent Pew Research Center survey showing Trump to be ahead of Biden despite the latter’s poor performance in the debate last month.
Trump’s approval rating stands at 44%, while Biden’s is at 40%. Notably, Trump has a double-digit lead over Biden on three crucial concerns.
Approximately 68% of participants informed Pew Research that they are typically dissatisfied with the presidential options available to them.
The Pew study, which was released on Thursday, is the first to be released following Biden’s disorganized and occasionally incomprehensible performance during the first 2024 presidential debate.
Trump has an advantage over Biden because of his hegemonic stance on three crucial issues facing voters: immigration, the economy, and international relations.
Regarding immigration policy, Trump leads Biden by 17 points (52–35%), economic policy by 14 points (54–40%), and foreign policy by 10 points (49–39).
A Rasmussen Reports poll that was published a week ago was disastrous news for both Biden and Harris. That poll showed that 55 percent of those asked want the president to get out of the election, while 50 percent said that Democrats should pick someone new, not Harris, as his replacement.
“Importantly, nearly half (48%) of Democratic voters at least somewhat agree that Biden should step aside and let the Democratic Party choose another candidate,” the poll said.
Another poll, from Cygnal, was also tragic news for the Democrats as voters scorched the president’s debate performance and showed no confidence in the vice president.
“Post-debate, we’ve seen the largest single month-over-month movement towards Republicans across-the-board, from R+0 to R+4, in the history of our national polling,” Cygnal President Brent Buchanan said. “President Biden’s image worsened to 62% having an unfavorable view of him after 67% of respondents said they watched his disastrous debate performance.”
“Trump’s performance earned him 4 points of undecided debate-watchers and another 3 points from those who were Biden supporters heading into the debate. There’s little question this has further eroded the political environment for Democrats,” he said.
