Another police shooting of a black man in Minnesota, not far from where George Floyd was killed in an interaction with police, has led to more riots.

The shooting happened on Sunday when Duante Wright apparently jumped into his car as he was being arrested on a warrant causing police to open fire and kill him, police have said, CNN reported.

Around 2 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET), police said they were trying to take a man into custody after learning during a traffic stop that he had outstanding warrants.

The man got back into his vehicle, and an officer shot him, police said. They said the man drove several blocks before striking another vehicle.

Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said police and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures following the crash, but the man died at the scene.

But the facts did not matter to the people who used the excuse of the shooting to begin rioting and looting the area of Brooklyn Center.

Wright’s mother said he called her during the traffic stop and told her that he was pulled over for having air fresheners hanging in his car.

“He said they pulled him over because he had air fresheners hanging from the rearview mirror,” Katie Wright said to reporters.

“A minute later, I called and his girlfriend answered, which was the passenger in the car, and said that he’d been shot,” she said. “He didn’t deserve to be shot and killed like this.”

No one can blame the man’s mother for feeling this way, but according to police what he told her and what the truth is, are not the same thing.

It did not take long for the Democrat Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to swiftly appear to take the side of the suspect and go against the police in a tweet.

“I am closely monitoring the situation in Brooklyn Center. Gwen and I are praying for Daunte Wright’s family as our state mourns another life of a Black man taken by law enforcement,” he said.

But regardless of what the facts of the case are, and we do not know them right now, the looters and rioters were out in force.

“Latest #BLM violence near Minneapolis sparked by police shooting of #DaunteWright. He was wanted on a warrant when he attempted to flee by car. He was shot & drove a distance before crashing into others. His FB is filled w/him flashing gang signs, using drugs & showing off cash,” journalist Andy Ngo reported.

“The claim from #DuanteWright’s mother & #BLM activists that he was killed by police over air fresheners is unsubstantiated. There was a warrant for his arrest. He resisted arrest & got back in the vehicle & tried to speed off. He nearly killed others during the failed escape,” Ngo said, showing photos of Wright pointing a gun at a camera, which came from a video Wright made.

“Update: #DaunteWright was in the process of getting arrested by @BPPD for a weapons charge & escaping police before he was killed yesterday, sparking #BLM race rioting & looting. The criminal complaint says he had an illegal Ruger .45 pistol. He skipped his court date this month,” he said.

“People looted a GameStop overnight in response to BLM inciting a riot & violence in Brooklyn Center (near Minneapolis) after police killed a criminal suspect evading arrest,” Ngo said.
