Texas Sen. Ted Cruz called out President Joe Biden and Democrats during an interview Wednesday evening over the ongoing chaotic situation along the U.S. border as illegal immigration and migrant crime begin to become top concerns for a growing majority of Americans ahead of the 2024 election.

In an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters, Cruz — who is running for reelection in November — accused Biden and his party of being willing to accept “collateral damage” in terms of crimes committed against Americans in order to import “future voters.”

“They support the open borders we have. The 10.6 million immigrants who have crossed under Joe Biden, Democrats, and the media to view them as future Democrat voters,” Cruz said. “If people have to die, if children have to be assaulted and women have to be, they are willing to accept that as collateral damage.

“The odds of a major terrorist attack in America today are greater than they have been at any point since September 11th, 2001. Tomorrow, I am going to be on the border with President Trump. I am going to be on Sean Hannity’s show with the president on the border and highlighting this invasion that is happening,” he continued.

“Every time I am on the border, when I talk to Border Patrol agents [and] they tell me they are concerned about Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists crossing the border, crossing over and trying to commit another mass murder like October 7th,” he added.

The U.S. Border Patrol Union shredded Biden for doing “too little, too late” in making a trip to the southwest border that has become chaotic under his watch.

Biden visited on Thursday, the same day former President Donald Trump went to the border, as the issue of illegal immigration skyrockets to the top of a list of concerns among a growing majority of Americans.

Biden went to Brownsville, Texas, while Trump went to visit Eagle Pass. The White House confirmed Biden’s visit on Monday after reports noted Trump would visit the border last week.

“Biden’s visit comes after more than 7.2 million illegal aliens, a number greater than the population of 36 U.S. states, have flooded into the U.S. throughout his first three years in office,” the Daily Wire noted. The massive wave of illegal immigration is the result of Biden eliminating nearly all of Trump’s highly effective enforcement policies, Republicans and Border Patrol agents have charged.

“The issue has become a serious threat to Biden’s re-election as polling has shown that the overwhelming majority of Americans disapprove of what is happening at the border, and they blame Biden for it,” the Daily Wire added, noting further that Biden’s hasty visit smacks of desperation.

In a statement, the Trump campaign said Biden’s visit is a “last-minute, insincere attempt to chase President Trump to the border.”

“Crooked Joe Biden has had three years to visit the border and fix the crisis he created,” said Karoline Leavitt, a Trump spokeswoman. “Now Biden’s handlers are sending him there on the same day as President Trump’s publicly reported trip, not because they actually want to solve the problem, but because they know Biden is losing terribly.”

Meanwhile, the Border Patrol’s union released a statement to Fox News Digital regarding Biden’s visit, saying that “after repeatedly stating there is no crisis,” it “is too little, too late.”

The union also said “there would be no point in visiting the border now” if Biden believes his claim that he’s done all he can do within his power to secure the border.

“But even if he were to put the proper policies in place at this late hour, he’d be doing it only to try to save his Presidency. And self-serving actions when time is winding down should always give Americans pause. Common sense dictates that as a lame duck, he’d revert to his open border policies if re-elected,” the statement said.

“Biden is going to the border now solely to try to save himself. Border security should never be about politics, it should always be about the safety and security of this great nation and the American people,” the statement noted further.
