Things are getting tough for President Joe Biden’s campaign to the point where he is facing collapse in a state he should handily win.
Former President Donald Trump is now within single digits of President Biden in super-blue New Jersey, Breitbart News reported.
The numbers were shown in a new conducted by Emerson College Polling, PIX11, and the Hill.
The poll asked respondents, “In a hypothetical 2024 Presidential match-up between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who would you vote for at this time?”
Biden scored 46 percent of the vote, and former President Trump got 39 percent, a 7-point lead for the president in a state he won in 2020, 57.3 percent—41.4 percent, a lead of around 16 points.
And when third-party candidates are added, the numbers become even more worrisome for the president.
“In that scenario, 41 percent support Biden, followed by 36 percent who support Trump — a difference of five percentage points. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. comes in third place with eight percent support, followed by one percent for Cornel West and one percent for Jill Stein. Another 14 percent remain undecided,” Breitbart News reported.
“As is consistent with voters in other states, a plurality of respondents, 39 percent, identify the economy — jobs, inflation, and taxes — as the most important issue facing New Jersey. Another ten percent identify immigration as the most important issue facing the state. Both of those issues are strong suits for the former president. Another 12 percent say housing affordability, 11 percent say threats to democracy, seven percent say healthcare, seven percent say crime, and five percent say education is the most important issue facing the Garden State,” it said.
The poll was done March 26-29, 2024, and involved 1,000 registered voters. The margin of error is ± three percent.
The former president has said he would be “making a play” for blue states, including New Jersey.
“One of the other things I’m going to do — and I may be foolish in doing it — is I’m going to make a heavy play for New York, heavy play for New Jersey, heavy play for Virginia, heavy play for New Mexico, and a heavy play for a state that hasn’t been won in years, Minnesota,” he said to Breitbart News in an exclusive interview in January.
“I’m going to do rallies. I’m going to do speeches. I’m going to work them,” he said. “That doesn’t mean I’m going to work them as hard as I work Pennsylvania, where I’m doing very well.”
“But we’re going to do these other states too, and it will be a heavy move,” he said. “I may rent Madison Square Garden, and that’s the belly of the beast, right?”
The news comes as the former president crushed President Biden’s fundraising record this week with an event in Palm Beach.
The former president’s campaign announced that it raised a staggering $50.5 million, CNN reported. The total close to doubles the record set by President Joe Biden’s campaign last week in New York when it raised $26 million at an event that featured former Presidents Bill Clinton and Obama.
The “Inaugural Leadership Dinner” was held at the Palm Beach, Florida, home of billionaire investor John Paulson.
“Tonight will be an incredible night for President Trump and the Republican Party, raising an astounding $50.5 million,” Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, Trump campaign senior advisors. “Meanwhile, after locking up the nomination in one of the fastest primaries in modern political history, Donald J. Trump is winning poll after poll and proving that the enthusiasm is on his side. It’s clearer than ever that we have the message, the operation, and the money to propel President Trump to victory on November 5.”
“The success of tonight’s event is proving what we already know: Americans are fed up with Biden’s record of failure, from the open southern border and sky-high inflation to the migrant crime crisis that has made everyone less safe,” RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and Co-Chairman Lara Trump said. “The Republican Party is united behind the effort to elect President Donald J. Trump, and Americans are lining up to join our movement and retire Crooked Joe Biden.”
