Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has declared a state of emergency in response to the escalating immigration crisis facing the Biden administration.

With an unprecedented surge in immigration, Abbott issued a disaster declaration along the state’s southern border with Mexico to provide additional resources and strategies to combat the ongoing influx of illegal aliens entering the United States.

Abbott said in his press release:

Governor Greg Abbott today issued a disaster declaration along Texas’ southern border in response to the border crisis, providing more resources and strategies to combat the ongoing influx of unlawful immigrants. The Governor is authorizing the use of all necessary and available state and local resources to protect landowners in these counties from trespassers and the damage they cause to private property. The Governor has also directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to enforce all federal and state criminal laws, including criminal trespassing, smuggling, and human trafficking.

The Governor directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to take all necessary steps to discontinue state licensure of any child care facility under a contract with the federal government that shelters or detains unlawful immigrants.

Additionally, the Governor directed the Texas Commission on Jail Standards and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement to work with Texas counties to provide appropriate guidance and request any necessary waivers in order to give counties the flexibility needed to establish adequate alternative detention facilities or otherwise add or expand capacity.

The Governor also directed these agencies to streamline procedures for licensing and transfers, and to address any staffing issues that may arise in expanding capacity.

Abbott has also directed the state’s Department of Public Safety to enforce all federal and state criminal laws, including criminal trespassing, smuggling, and human trafficking.

“Texas continues to step up to confront the border crisis in the federal government’s absence, but more must be done,” Abbott stated.

Last month, Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Biden’s administration for allegedly releasing Covid-infected illegal aliens into the United States.

“President Biden’s outright disregard of the public health crisis in Texas by welcoming and encouraging mass gatherings of illegal aliens is hypocritical and dangerous. This reckless policy change stifles the reopening of the Texas economy at a time when businesses need it the most and when our children need to get back to in-person learning as soon as possible,” Paxton said in a statement announcing the lawsuit.

“Instead of using the CDC’s authority to prevent the introduction of covered aliens into the United States during a pandemic, Defendants have chosen to take courses of action that have resulted in the release of tens of thousands of aliens into Texas and the United States,” the lawsuit says.

“Absent this Court’s intervention, such releases will continue for the foreseeable future,” the statement adds.

Paxton accused Biden of putting Texans “at-risk” with an influx of migrants who have coronavirus.

During an interview on Fox News, Paxton said the Biden Administration “adopted this policy of open borders and they’re sticking with it despite the consequences of the spread of COVID, human trafficking, increase in drug trafficking, and an increase of crime and just general chaos.”

Paxton said Texas will take legal action against the Biden administration.
