Do as I say and not as I do should be the campaign slogan for the majority of Democrat politicians. Particularly those in California.

Photos have emerged of Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom, he of the mask mandate, not wearing a mask at the Los Angeles Rams VS San Francisco 49ers NFC Championship Game this weekend and it has many people furious.

At a press conference, the governor defended himself by saying that he only took the mask off to have a sip of water, The New York Post reported.

“I was very judicious yesterday. Very judicious. And you’ll see in the photo that I did take, where Magic was kind enough, generous enough to ask me for a photograph, and in my left hand’s the mask and I took a photo,” the governor said.

“The rest of the time, I wore it as we all should. Not when I had a glass of water or a thing. And I encourage everybody else to do so. And that’s it,” he said.

“I was trying to be gracious. I made a mis–. I was trying to be gracious. I took the mask off for a brief second. I encourage people to continue to wear them,” he said.

LA County has a mask mandate in place for outdoor “mega events” that host more than 5,000 people, regardless of vaccination status. The rules will apply for the Super Bowl at the stadium on Feb. 13.

Under SoFi Stadium’s policies — which adhere to the local health order — masks are required to be worn at all times except when people are eating or drinking.

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and San Francisco Mayor London Breed were also spotted in the suite without masks.

The Democratic governor and two mayors were not eating or drinking at the time the photos were taken.

“The Governor acknowledged that he took off his mask for a few moments during Sunday’s game,” Newsom’s communications director Erin Mellon said to The Post on Monday.

“He continues to encourage all Californians to do their part to get through the pandemic and this latest surge, including wearing a mask and getting vaccinated,” she said.

And even after the governor said he only removed his mask briefly, photos and videos appear to show that is not the case.

“California governor Gavin Newsom said he only took his mask off for a “brief second” for a photo at 49ers-Rams. Here he is on live TV during the game without his mask on. Liars gonna lie,” Clay Travis said with video.

“Gavin Newsom claimed he took his mask off for just a second at 49ers-Rams. The Bud Light fan cam proves otherwise. This dude is a complete and total liar,” he said.

Many on Twitter were furious at the hypocrisy.

“Maybe Californians would cut Newsom some slack over the mask thing if it wasn’t for the homelessness, crime, cost of living, taxes, poverty, inequality, bureaucracy, housing shortage, water shortage, power outages, forest mismanagement, EDD fraud, school closures, MASK MANDATES,” Fox News host Steve Hilton said.

“In light of his conduct at the football game, and in light of what empirical data and common sense have long dictated, I’m calling on Gavin Newsom to end the school mask mandate,” California Legislator Kevin Kiley said.

“Toddlers are being forced to wear masks all day long in school,” State Sen. Melissa Melendez said. “Maybe one day they’ll be governor or the mayor of LA and they won’t have the follow the rules they impose on others.”

“Rules for thee, but not for me. Meanwhile, our school children have to wear masks for hours on end,” one Twitter user said.

Even CNN reported on the hypocrisy.

In 2020, Newsom attended an unmasked birthday dinner at the elite Napa Valley restaurant The French Laundry while urging Californians to stay home and avoid gatherings outside their households to stop the spread of Covid-19. Newsom, who later apologized for attending the dinner, went on to survive a recall election last year that was instigated in part by the imbroglio.

And Breed similarly faced questions over her behavior in public after she broke San Francisco’s indoor mask mandate in September while attending a live concert at a nightclub in the city. At the time, she blasted “fun police” for raising questions about the episode.
