It looks like former President Donald Trump remains too formidable a political force ahead of the 2024 presidential cycle to be replaced with another GOP leader, according to a long-time political analyst.

In an interview with Newsmax TV, Dick Morris, who advised Bill Clinton’s two campaigns and has also reportedly been advising Trump, said on Saturday Democrats have given up trying to replace the former president atop the GOP primary list and will instead try to use the legal system to bar him from another term.

“I think we have to understand the point I make in my book, ‘The Return: Trump’s Big 2024 Comeback,’ Democrats had given up on the political process to keep Trump out of office,” Morris said during “Saturday Report.”

“They’ve seen after primary, after primary, after primary, week after week, that Trump is winning everything; and they realized that they can’t beat him in the Republican primary,” the political guru continued.

Due to the former president’s still-strong political prowess, Morris said he believes Democrats have simply abandoned efforts to beat Trump politically and are now focused on using the Biden Justice Department and FBI to find some way to legally prevent him from winning a second term.

“They had tried to get [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis and others into the race, but they see that they’re not going to get in because Trump has a lock on the nomination,” he said. “So what they’re trying to do is to knock him off the ballot through the courts. And the vehicle they’ve chosen is to indict him for sedition, which is the crime that he allegedly committed when they claim that he incited a revolution against the United States on Jan. 6, [2021].”

Newsmax added:

Morris said that, historically, the idea comes from the post-Civil War era, when a number of former Confederate generals and other officials were elected to Congress, spurring legislation that would bar them from serving because they were part of “the rebellion.”

This, he said, is now the case that the Democrats want to make against Trump, effectively removing him from the ballot in 2024 for being part of the “rebellion” on Jan. 6, when a group of Trump supporters protesting the results of the 2020 election stormed the U.S. Capitol as members of Congress validated the results of the presidential race.

Capitol Police shot and killed an unarmed Trump supporter, Ashli Babbitt, during the protest and subsequent riot.

The House impeached Trump in January 2021 for allegedly “inciting” the melee at the Capitol with remarks he earlier delivered to protesters at the Ellipse, The New York Times reported at the time.

Trump was acquitted in the Senate during both of his impeachments.

“The Democrats are trying to manufacture the idea that Jan. 6 was such a rebellion because — and the timing of this is very significant to the Mar-a-Lago raid — because it came after Trump had a winning streak in primaries, thereby debunking the notion that he could be defeated by the ballot box,” Morris continued.

“[The search warrant] was executed precisely 90 days before the midterm elections, so it did not run afoul of the FBI rule that you can’t do anything to affect the election within 90 days,” he added.

Trump and other Republicans have blasted the DOJ and the FBI over the raid. In fact, according to a new Rassmussen Reports survey, a majority of likely voters — 53 percent — say they view the FBI now as President Joe Biden’s “personal Gestapo” that he is using to persecute a political opponent.

The majority agreed with the statement that “there is a group of politicized thugs at the top of the FBI that are using the FBI as Joe Biden’s personal Gestapo,” the survey said, as reported by the Washington Examiner.

Last December, just 46 percent of likely voters agreed with the same question, the outlet noted further.

“Among Republicans, a staggering 76% agree with the Roger Stone quote that there is ‘a group of politicized thugs at the top of the FBI who are using the FBI . . . as Joe Biden‘s personal Gestapo.’ About half (49%) of independents and a sizable 37% of Democrats also view the FBI as Biden’s Gestapo, while 72% of liberals disagree,” New York Post columnist and author Miranda Divine wrote.
