“The Federalist” senior editor Molly Hemingway noted during a Fox News segment on Friday that the argument Democrats seem to be making on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris is that Americans shouldn’t worry because she won’t really be running things.

The observation stems from a belief on the left and right that Harris has no real governing skills, has been unsuccessful during her term as vice president, and would similarly underperform as president. But, Hemingway said, Americans should rest easy because Democrats appear to be arguing that she would be commander-in-chief in name only.

“It really has been amazing to watch this campaign where Kamala Harris is afraid and truly afraid to talk to the media. Which is a weird situation because the corporate press, they’re already with her. They want her to win. And she’s afraid to even talk to them,” Hemingway said.

“She is the incumbent vice president. She has a failed presidency with President Biden. But the argument from Democrats seems to be, don’t worry so much about Kamala Harris,” the editor continued. “Don’t worry about the fact that maybe you’ve heard she’s lazy or incompetent because there’s this permanent D.C. class that runs things.

“And there is a truth to that in the Democrat Party. But the problem is, I think for a lot of voters, people don’t really like what that permanent D.C. class has been delivering,” she added. “Whether it’s foreign policy, border policy, economic policy in particular. And Kamala Harris has had every opportunity, every opportunity to fight those policies while she’s been the incumbent vice president. And she has never done it once.”

Within a few months of taking office, Biden put Harris in charge of getting the already chaotic border under control. She was dubbed “border czar” at the time by the same corporate media now denying they ever called her that after nearly four years of record illegal crossings made immigration one of the top 2024 election issues.

In addition, Biden named Harris head of the National Space Council in May 2021. At the time, she said she intended “to put her own personal stamp” on the council to focus on a wide variety of space policies, including the sustainable development of commercial spaceflight, “advancing peaceful norms and responsible behaviors in space,” climate change and more.

But here, too, the VP appears to have accomplished little. On Friday, Boein’s Starliner returned to earth after a three-month stay at the International Space Station without the two astronauts there, due to problems with the capsule. NASA said the pair will have to remain aboard the ISS for at least another five to six months — well into the next administration.

To arguments about Harris’ lack of competence, a political analyst for CNN poured more cold water on her campaign during a segment on Thursday, citing new poll numbers from a key demographic.

CNN’s political director, David Chalian, noted that white voters without college degrees are a particularly problematic group for Harris, whereas Trump has a significant advantage.

“If you look at the white voters without college degrees, this is a Trump-based constituency, obviously,” said Chalian. “You see his huge numbers with this group. You see that this is a trouble sign for Harris.” He further noted that the vice president is also struggling with another key demographic: white, college-educated voters in battleground states.

“She probably wants to make up some ground with white college-educated voters across these battlegrounds as well,” Chalian said.

A significant decline in support for Harris among white voters, regardless of their educational background, could jeopardize her chances, the expert noted.
