Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has an autobiography coming out early next year, and the timing of its release has turned some heads in the political world.
The book, which documents the popular GOP governor’s rise from a star Little League baseball player to one of the most significant figures in politics, is due out in February, just in time for potential presidential contenders to begin building a war chest and campaign organization ahead of the 2024 election.
The Daily Wire notes:
“The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival,” is expected to detail the 44-year-old leader’s journey from Sunshine State baseball diamonds to Yale, Harvard Law, service in the U.S. Navy, three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, and his current role. While DeSantis has not announced plans to challenge former President Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, books such as this often precede White House bids.
“He shares his thinking from when he was fighting back against COVID mandates and restrictions, critical race theory, woke corporations’ and what Broadside describes as ‘the partisan legacy media,” noted the publisher, Broadside Books, said in a statement.
The publisher, a subsidiary of Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch’s HarperCollins Publishing, said the book would be released on Feb. 28.
DeSantis commandingly won a second term earlier this month, defeating former GOP governor-turned-Democratic congressman Charlie Crist by 19 points. The landslide victory was seen by many political observers as an affirmation of the governor who kept Florida schools open during the pandemic, rejected mask and vaccine mandates, and took on the left over cultural issues like critical race theory and gender ideology being taught in public schools.
The Daily Wire added:
So far, only Trump has announced a 2024 bid. But a new poll from Iowa, where the presidential primary season gets underway every four years with the Iowa caucuses, showed Hawkeye State Republicans narrowly favor DeSantis over Trump, given the choice for 2024. Other polls have also showed that Republicans favor DeSantis over Trump and DeSantis faring better in a 2024 matchup against President Joe Biden. But some polls also show Trump more likely to emerge from a crowded primary field, should one materialize.
DeSantis outlined his vision and first-term accomplishments during a brief victory speech on Election Night. In part, he said:
Florida was a refuge of sanity when the world went mad. We stood as a citadel of freedom for people across this country and, indeed, across the world. We faced attacks. We took the hits. We weathered the storms. But we stood our ground. We did not back down. We had the conviction to guide us, and we had the courage to lead.
We did not back down. We had the conviction to guide us and we had the courage to lead. We made promises. We made promises to the people of Florida and we have delivered on those promises. And so today, after four years, the people have delivered their verdict: freedom is here to stay.
Thanks to the overwhelming support of the people of Florida, we not only won an election, we have rewritten the political map. Thank you for honoring us with a win for the ages…
We’re still tallying the votes, but it’s clearly apparent that this election we will have garnered a significant number of votes from people who may not have voted for me four years ago. I just want to let you know, I am honored to have earned your trust and your support over these four years…
Today is the culmination of the 2022 fall elections, but in reality, Americans have been voting for many years now. They’ve been voting with their feet. And the results of that behavior has been just as stark as our landslide victory today. States and cities governed by leftist politicians have seen crimes skyrocket. They’ve seen their taxpayers abused. They’ve seen medical authoritarianism imposed. And they’ve seen American principles discarded. The woke agenda has caused millions of Americans to leave these jurisdictions for greater pastures.
Now this great exodus of Americans for those folks, Florida, for so many of them has served as the promised land. We have embraced freedom. We have maintained law and order. We have protected the rights of parents. We have respected our taxpayers. And we reject woke ideology. We fight the woke in the legislature, we fight the woke in the schools, we fight the woke in the corporations, we will never ever surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die.
People have come here because our policies work. Leadership matters.
