Former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard took aim at the Biden administration during an interview Thursday evening over its newly announced Disinformation Governance Board.

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity, a one-time Hawaii lawmaker who has been making the rounds in more conservative circles since President Joe Biden took office, appeared to suggest that the administration would use the new board to exact retribution on political enemies.

“Every dictatorship has a propaganda arm—a ‘Ministry of Truth,’” she noted in a tweet containing a video statement.

“The Biden Administration has now formally joined the ranks of such dictatorships with their creation of the so-called ‘Disinformation Governance Board,’” she added.

During her interview, she said that the administration set up the board because it is “afraid of us.”

“They’re afraid of the people, they’re afraid that we might actually think for ourselves,” she told Hannity. “And so, now they’ve created this body that’ll do two things: Number one, it’ll use taxpayer dollars to work through the mainstream media and flood the airwaves with whatever their propaganda narrative is that they’re pushing at any given time and try to drown out anyone with alternative views.

“And number two, they will silence dissenting voices through intimidation,” she said, adding: “This isn’t something new. This is something they have already been doing that’s happening right now. The only difference is they’re formalizing it, making it official, which is if there is a silver lining in this, it is they’re revealing exactly who they are.”

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas this week noted the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board which will “coordinate countering misinformation related to homeland security, focused specifically on irregular migration and Russia.”

DHS appointed Nina Jankowicz as executive director of the disinformation board though, as the Washington Examiner reported, she “has a history of sharing misleading claims about British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s discredited dossier and downplaying controversy embroiling President Joe Biden’s son.”

Many others have since come out in opposition to the new ‘disinfo’ board, including a number of Republican lawmakers.

“I write with deep concern about the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to create a new Disinformation Governance Board. I confess, I at first thought this announcement was satire. Surely no American Administration would ever use the power of Government to sit in judgment on the First Amendment speech of its own citizens,” a letter to DHS from Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), a former state attorney general, began.

“Sadly, I was mistaken. Rather than protecting our border or the American Homeland, you have chosen to make policing Americans’ speech your priority. This new board is almost certainly unconstitutional and should be dissolved immediately,” the letter added.

Another Fox News host, Tucker Carlson, also suggested that Biden could use the board against his political enemies while adding that Americans of all political persuasions should oppose it.

“Joe Biden cannot continue to control this country if you have free access to information. It’s that simple. Biden certainly is not improving your life. He is not even trying to improve your life. So the best he can do is lie to you and demand that you believe it,” Carlson noted during his Thursday evening program.

“But to do that, he needs to make certain that nobody else can talk because if you were to hear the truth, you might not obey. How is Biden going to pull that off? It’s not easy,” he said.

Later, he declared: “Just to be clear, this is a nightmare unfolding in slow motion, but this is the point where we’re just going to have to draw the line. No, Joe Biden, you can’t have a federally funded Ministry of Truth, and no, Nina Jankowicz can’t run it. Period.”
