‘Single Dumbest Thing I’ve Heard’: Former ICE Director Slams Democrat Rashida Tlaib Over Calls To Defund Border Patrol

Tom Homan, the former director of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has tore into progressive Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a member of the “Squad”, for her calls to defund ICE, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Earlier this week, Tlaib expressed remarks in a video stating that the easiest way to stop illegal migrants from being targeted by law enforcement, which uses surveillance technology to track illegal entries, would be to cut all funding for the CBP, ICE, and the DHS. Tlaib made her comments in a Zoom call with Just Futures Law, a group that opposes the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Tlaib’s remarks are in line with efforts by House Democrats, who proposed a new spending bill that would cut funding to immigration enforcement agencies by up to a billion dollars.

In an interview with Fox and Friends, Homan was asked about Tlaib’s comments, and described her suggestion as being “the single dumbest thing I’ve ever heard any member of Congress say.”

“That’s the single dumbest thing I’ve heard any member of Congress say. A sitting member of Congress wants to defund the United States Department of Homeland Security that not only has CBP and ICE, but they have the Secret Service, the Coast Guard, FEMA, the terrorist screening center,” Homan said.

“She wants to defund the department that has responsibility for the safety, security, this nation,” he added. “That is a ridiculous statement. ICE and CBP have done more to protect this country and take criminals off the street than she and the rest of the Squad will ever do it.”

“She wants you to defund somebody? I’ve got a suggestion. Defund Congress, defund the Squad, because name one thing they have done to improve this country,” continued Homan. “Name one thing they’ve done to address the rampant crime in the cities, the out-of-control border, the deficit, Afghanistan, the economy, they’ve done nothing. So they want to defund somebody. I suggest we stop giving them paychecks till they actually do their job.”

“She goes to bed every night and sleeps comfortably because of the safety and security provided by the same agencies that she wants to vilify. It’s disgusting,” he said.

The Daily Caller reported that in May, the border patrol agency captured 180,000 migrants, following 178,000 in April, and 173,000 in March. Despite the stark rise in illegal entries, Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported the fewest number of illegal immigrants in the agency’s history, at 2,962, in April. The surge of illegal entries into the United States via the southern border has steadily climbed since Joe Biden took office in January.

Both Guatemalan and Mexican Presidents have blamed the Biden administration’s policies for the border crisis.

“Expectations were created that with the Government of President [Joe] Biden there would be better treatment of migrants,” Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said. “And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so.”

“We asked the United States government to send more of a clear message to prevent more people from leaving,” Guatanamalan President Alenjandro Giammattei said. “The very next day, the coyotes were here organizing groups of children to take them to the United States.”
