Irish filmmaker Phelim McAleer says he wants to make a movie about presidential son Hunter Biden’s complicated and surreal life, but he’s having trouble getting past the ‘woke’ Hollywood left in order to get the project off the ground.
“We know that Hollywood won’t make these movies, and people want to see them,” the conservative filmmaker told Just the News AM with Sophie Mann. “People want the truth out there.”
For most of his life, Hunter Biden, a lawyer and a businessman, lived out of the spotlight even though his father has spent 50 years in Washington politics, including a long career as a U.S. senator and then vice president under Barack Obama.
But he came under scrutiny as Joe Biden got closer to announcing a 2020 presidential bid and then won the nomination, and that’s when McAleer came up with “My Son Hunter” along with co-producer Ann McElhinney.
Just the News adds:
Hunter Biden having [served] on the board of Burisma Holdings, a major Ukraine natural gas company, while his father was still vice president for at least two years, became the subject of great interest and concern during the 2020 presidential election cycle.
Critics raised repeated questions about Hunter Biden’s high-paying post – amid his father’s anti-corruption efforts in the Ukraine as vice president.
The interest and intrigue hit a high point in October 2020, weeks before Election Day, when The New York Post reported that Hunter Biden had left a laptop at Delaware computer repair shop that included emails about his business interests in China and Ukraine.
“There’s a real hunger for the truth out there,” McAleer told the outlet. “But don’t forget this story was not just ignored before the election, it was actively suppressed by big media and big tech.”
The problem, he says, is finding actors in far-left Hollywood.
“Not because the roles aren’t good,” he said. “My God, the roles are wonderful. …They just know that if they act in this, they’ll never work again in Hollywood.”
Indeed, the filmmaker says that the project’s screenwriter has asked to remain anonymous over fears they will be “canceled” or otherwise blacklisted from the movie biz, like other ‘out and proud’ Hollywood conservatives.
That said, the film is getting some funding, reaching 12 percent of its $2.5 million goal, according to McAleer.
“You may think you know the story, but the truth is more damning than you could ever imagine!” the MySonHunter.com website tells supporters.

McAleer and McElhinney have worked as husband-and-wife to produce films such as “Gosnell: The Trial Of America’s Biggest Serial Killer” and “Obamagate The Movie.”
Their next endeavor will chronicle the “elitist party lifestyle, dodgy business dealings, family drama, and corruption” of Hunter Biden.
No actors have yet been announced for the upcoming film, but Laurence Fox from the Netflix series “Victoria” and “Becoming Jane” has said he has been approached about playing the role of Hunter Biden in the upcoming film.
“This is a story that has to come out. This is a story that needs to be known by everyone,” McElhinney said during a fundraising video for the film.
