A former CNN analyst argued last week that Democrats would not have chosen Kamala Harris “in a vacuum” but were compelled to do so due to her skin color, gender, and role as vice president.
Chris Cillizza, on his YouTube channel, noted that Harris is running as the presumptive nominee largely due to support from party insiders, despite her limited backing from primary voters. He suggested that, given the time constraints before the Democratic National Convention and President Joe Biden’s unexpected withdrawal, Democrats might have selected a different nominee if not for Harris’s profile.
“I think you need to win the Midwest and Pennsylvania to get elected president if you’re a Democrat. And I think Harris is, at best, an even money bet to win those states,” Cillizza said. “I think she probably has as much a chance as pre-debate Biden. So she can win, but it’s no lock … But the realities of the way the Democratic Party works, the vice president of the United States, who is a black woman, is not going to be the nominee.”
“In a situation like this, in a situation where it’s like the president says he’s not running again, the convention is in a month, they have to pick really fast, she’s going to win,” he continued. “Even if it was an open convention, which it’s not really going to be … she would’ve won anyway. But is she the best candidate in a vacuum if the Democrats could pick anyone with no repercussions? No, she is not.”
Cillizza was responding to a viewer’s question about whether a ticket with two Rust Belt governors would be better than having Harris as the vice president. He stated that Harris has “limited experience,” a “far-left voting record,” and “border crisis baggage.” The former CNN analyst agreed with the viewer’s concerns and expressed his belief that Democrats would have nominated Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer or Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro over Harris under normal circumstances.

Meanwhile, Fox News “The Five” co-host Jesse Watters tore into the mainstream media for its blatant pro-Democrat bias for recasting Vice President Kamala Harris as presidential material after portraying her as unpopular and even a potential drag on President Joe Biden’s reelection bid.
During a segment on Thursday, Watters agreed with the panel’s assessment that Harris’ race against former President Donald Trump will be much closer than it should be, but only because of media bias in favor of the VP.
“It’s going to be close. And if we had a fair press, this would be a landslide. Democrats would never win another national election again if we had a fair press. Three months before the election, this woman comes out, and she has a record that says I want to get rid of ICE, private health care, guns, and then says, actually, I don’t believe any of that,” he said.
“And it’s like Trump coming out tomorrow and saying we are not going to do the wall, and we are going to raise taxes. What? No! And so the media usually would be curious. Why? What happened here? No. They are scrubbing the internet of this stuff. And then they are censoring pictures of Donald Trump in searches for Donald Trump. And the Democratic Party doesn’t even care,” he added.
