Fox Anchor Caught Calling Boss ‘B-ch’ In Video At Center Of Firing Lawsuit

A former television news anchor’s heated confrontation inside the newsroom has been captured on video, and the footage could now play a significant role in determining whether her firing was justified.

The recording has emerged amid a legal battle in which the longtime broadcaster claims she was discriminated against and retaliated against, while her former employer says something very different happened behind the scenes. (VIDEO AT BOTTOM)

Former WJBK-TV Fox 2 Detroit anchor Taryn Asher can be heard calling her boss a “b*tch,” using profanity and expressing frustration with colleagues during a tense exchange while preparing to record a public service announcement.

Asher, who was pulled from the air in November, is suing Fox Television Stations and New World Communications of Detroit for sex discrimination and retaliation under federal and Michigan civil rights laws.

Fox maintains that Asher’s removal followed repeated complaints about what the company characterized as “unprofessional workplace behavior” and “outbursts.”

The video, highlighted by FTVLive and Deadline Detroit, captures Asher discussing scripts and the newsroom’s workflow as she prepares to go on camera.

“I am. I’m in Amy’s script, the Amy’s Angels one,” Asher says.

“There was—the second thing didn’t make sense, so I was just trying to fix that part and…” she continued.

“I know, but I didn’t have time because we have to do this, so I was still reading it,” Asher said.

She then expressed frustration about the process of waiting for scripts to be reviewed while simultaneously preparing for the broadcast.

“See, I mean, I can’t wait for you to go through them all and then I go through them, because then I’m already getting ready by then,” Asher said.

“But this time we had to do the PSAs, so…” she added.

The conversation then became considerably more heated.

“I don’t think you are,” Asher said.

“You’re walking out really angry,” she continued.

“B*tch,” Asher added.

“Can I please finish what I’m going to say?” she asked.

“What the f–k,” Asher said.

“Grow up,” she added.

The footage has surfaced as Fox disputes Asher’s allegations that she was disciplined because of her sex and because she complained about unequal treatment in the workplace.

In an Aug. 14 court filing, Fox said several employees complained about Asher’s behavior during the week before management placed her on paid leave Nov. 5.

The company alleges Asher shouted at employees over guest interview assignments, repeatedly directed profanity toward coworkers and engaged in “confrontational and disrespectful interactions.”

Fox also alleges that Asher confronted an employee she suspected had complained about her to management.

Another dispute allegedly erupted Oct. 30 when Asher believed her male co-anchor, Roop Raj, had received an interview she had booked.

Fox contends the interview was actually assigned to Asher but alleges she subsequently raised her voice and at times shouted at two colleagues while discussing the confusion.

Tensions allegedly flared again during election coverage on Nov. 4 after producers initially assigned Raj guest interviews during both the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. broadcasts.

According to Fox’s filing, Asher subsequently confronted Raj and told him words to the effect of, “You don’t own politics.”

The station placed Asher on paid leave the following day while management investigated the workplace complaints.

Fox said Raj later spoke with human resources and expressed his belief that Asher was “jealous” of him and appeared to have an issue involving “men versus women, Trending Politics reported.

Management ultimately informed Asher on Nov. 21 that she would not return because of what Fox described as her “repeated outbursts in the newsroom and multiple instances of unprofessional conduct with her colleagues.”
