Democrat presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, has received the endorsement of former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney and her dad, former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney, but that endorsement is a disaster, former Democrat Rep. Tulsi Gabbard believes.
“Defeating Donald Trump is frankly important, but there are numbers of candidates around the country who have embraced election denialism, and I think it’s really important that we defeat them, too,” Liz Cheney said. “One of the most important things we need to do as a country as we begin to rebuild our politics is we need to elect serious people.”
“Those of us who believe in the defense of our democracy and the defense of our Constitution and the survival of our Republic have a duty in this election cycle to come together and to put those things above politics,” she said. “I look forward to the days when we will again be having debates about tax policy and national security and everything else, because that will mean we have made it through what is right now a very grave threat to a functioning republic.”
Her dad, the former vice president, issued a press release in which he confirmed that he will be voting for the Democrat.
“As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris,” he said.
Former President Donald Trump shredded both of them in a post on Truth Social after the announcement.
“Dick Cheney is an irrelevant RINO, along with his daughter, who lost by the largest margin in the History of Congressional Races!” he said.
“They couldn’t get [former Dick Cheney aide] Scooter Libby, who did so much for them (but was so unfairly treated!), PARDONED. I did it!” the former president said.
“I am the Peace President, and only I will stop World War III!” he said.
The Democrat nominee said she was “honored” to have gotten their endorsement.
“Actually I was honored to have their endorsements, and I think that they both, as leaders who are well respected, are making an important statement, that it’s okay, and it’s important to put country above party,” she said.
But former Rep. Gabbard did not think the endorsement was anything to celebrate.
“I have a very simple message for my Democrat friends, my Independent friends, those who may not be sure about who they’re voting for in this election. Dick Cheney has just made the choice very clear. A vote for Kamala Harris is a vote for Dick Cheney, the architect of everything that has gone wrong in the Middle East for the last few decades,” the former Hawaii representative said.
She continued to shred the endorsement when she spoke to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
“And so it’s interesting because if you listen to the New York Times or some of the other mainstream media, they’re saying, oh, you know, don’t expect much from Kamala Harris in the way of policies and details and plans, and we’re not going to know much about what kind of president she’s been there, working in the White House the last three and a half years alongside Joe Biden,” she said.
“She’s been the last one in the room, according to her, as these big decisions are being made. But we look at who she says, her response to the Dick Cheney announcement today was that she was honored to have his endorsement,” she said to the former Fox News host.
“And we got military veterans in the house. Got a lot of you who probably served in the Middle East like I did. And so it sickened me, Tucker, to read those words today,” she said.
