Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has been given a spot on two powerful House committees after the conservative firebrand gave her full support to Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s bid for speaker. Greene will be on the House’s Homeland Security Committee and Oversight Committee.

“The Homeland Security panel works on legislation regarding national security, which includes the border and immigration, and conducts oversight of the Department of Homeland Security. The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability will be responsible for one of the GOP’s investigations into classified documents found in President Joe Biden’s former office,” the Washington Examiner reported.

“Greene had previously mentioned she wanted to join the Oversight panel. The Steering Committee is made up of about 30 members of House leadership and other regional representatives. The rosters for the committees, however, need to be approved by the entire House GOP conference,” the outlet added.

Greene issued a statement to her website and spoke about what she plans to do in her role on the two committees.

“One of the key agenda items for the Republican majority in the 118th Congress is oversight. That’s why I’m honored to be selected to serve on what could arguably be the most important committee this Congress, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. We will return the role of the Oversight Committee to investigating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement of the federal government, which is exactly what the American people are fed up with,” Green said.

“Joe Biden, be prepared. We are going to uncover every corrupt business dealing, every foreign entanglement, every abuse of power, and every check cut for The Big Guy. And it’s not just the Biden Crime Family, the GOP majority will investigate every bit of government being used to abuse the American people. Every three and four-letter agency will now have to answer to Republican oversight, not the rubber stamp of Democrat rule. I can’t wait to get started and look forward to my assignment being ratified next week by the entire GOP conference,” she added.

“It will be my honor to serve my constituents and the American People on the House Committee on Homeland Security to focus on the security of the United States. Our Southern border is being invaded by millions of illegal aliens, criminals, and potential terrorists. Our People are being murdered by Chinese fentanyl flooding in from the cartels. Our Border Patrol and ICE agents have their hands tied and have been turned into a welcoming committee by the Biden administration. Cyber attacks continue on our nation’s people and businesses along with many more threats to our homeland,” she continued.

Greene concluded: “It’s time for accountability with Republicans in charge. We will investigate the Biden administration’s violations of our laws and fund (and defund) programs to defend our border and American sovereignty. I can’t wait to get started and look forward to my assignment being ratified next week by the entire GOP conference.”

New York Democrat Ritchie Torres tweeted: “As the former Vice Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, I’m HORRIFIED that it was just announced that Marjorie Taylor Greene will serve on the committee.”

California Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell said: “This is who Kevin McCarthy thinks is qualified to serve on the HOMELAND SECURITY Committee #NotTheOnion.”

MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan wrote on Twitter: “Greene, who has pushed QAnon conspiracies, with QAnon being described by the FBI as a domestic terror threat, and who has shown support for political violence, now sits on the Homeland Security Committee. Make of that what you will,” tweeted MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan.”

Rhode Island Democrat Rep. Seth Magaziner tweeted: “Marjorie Taylor Greene promoted violence against members Congress, campaigned with violent far-right militia groups, spread false rumors claiming school shootings were fake, and tried to overturn the 2020 election. She does not belong anywhere near the Homeland Security Cmtte.”
