Hillary Clinton is stepping back into the limelight with an announcement about her next career decision.
She has decided to write a fiction book titled “State Of Terror” that is about a secretary of state that is facing terrorism and a crumbling global world order, The New York Daily News reported.
Clinton will join forces with author friend Louise Penny in writing the book, which is titled “State of Terror” and is due out in October, publisher Simon & Schuster announced Tuesday.
Clinton’s last foray into book publishing came in 2017 when she penned her memoir, “What Happened,” about her stunning loss to Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
With her entry into the thriller genre, the former secretary of state and and former first lady follows in the footsteps of her husband and former President Bill Clinton, who penned the 2018 book “The President Is Missing” with James Patterson. Clinton and Patterson are set to release another novel, “The President’s Daughter,” in June.
Penny is a Canadian author who has written a collection of beloved mysteries centered around fictional Montreal Chief Inspector Armand Gamache.
“I’m thrilled to be writing my first book of fiction with Louise Penny, one of my favorite authors and a dear friend. Get ready for some high-stakes diplomacy and treachery,” the former secretary of state said on Twitter.
“Thanks to Joe McNally for a portrait so good I’ve used it for two books now!” she said.
Clinton said that she has been a fan of Penny as an author and is excited to be working with her.
“I’ve relished every one of her books and their characters as well as her friendship,” Clinton, 73, said. “Now we’re joining our experiences to explore the complex world of high stakes diplomacy and treachery. All is not as it first appears.”
Penny is also a fan of Clinton and said she was excited to be working with Clinton on this new venture.
“When it was suggested my friend Hillary and I write a political thriller together, I could not say yes fast enough,” the author said in a statement. “What an incredible experience, to get inside the State Department. Inside the White House. Inside the mind of the Secretary of State as high stake crises explode.”
“Before we started, we talked about her time as Secretary of State. What was her worst nightmare? State of Terror is the answer,” she said.

Simon & Schuster and St. Martin’s Press issued a press release announcing the book on Monday.
“Simon & Schuster and St. Martin’s Press are proud to publish a novel written by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Louise Penny. A unique collaboration by two long-time friends and thriller aficionados, STATE OF TERROR will be published on October 12, 2021,” the announcement said.
“A series of terrorist attacks throws the global order into disarray, and the Secretary is tasked with assembling a team to unravel the deadly conspiracy, a scheme carefully designed to take advantage of an American government dangerously out of touch and out of power in the places where it counts the most,” it said.
