A longtime Republican member of Congress has just learned that his career is done after his primary election defeat.

Mississippi Republican Rep. Steven Palazzo was defeated by Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell after Palazzo was the subject of an ethics investigation involving alleged misused campaign funds, NBC News reported.

It was in 2021 that the Office of Congressional Ethics found “substantial reason to believe” that he has misspent campaign funds and asked his staff to run errands for him.

Ezell, a longtime local sheriff and a county chair for Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, hounded Palazzo over the ethics probe and for being absent from both the district and the House chamber.

Several times during the current Congress, Palazzo wrote letters to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., designating colleagues to vote for him by proxy because the Covid pandemic prevented him from participating in person.

In the first round of voting on June 7, Palazzo came in first among seven candidates with 31.6 percent of the vote — but failed to hit the majority threshold to avoid a runoff. Ezell advanced by coming in second with 25.1 percent of the vote.

It was a big week for primaries as some other favorites of former President Donald Trump scored victories.

Among them was Rep. Lauren Boebert has been declared the winner of her primary for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.

Boebert handily defeated Republican state Rep. Don Coram, a rancher who called Boebert an “extremist.”

Boebert had criticized Coram for working with legislative Democrats as he tried to position himself as a “centrist.”

Far-left journalist Nick Bowlin published an article in The Guardian describing efforts by Democrats “moderate Republicans” to get Boebert voted out of office.

Those efforts failed on Tuesday night.

Boebert has a long list of endorsements, including from former President Donald Trump.

“Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has done a fantastic job in her first term representing Colorado’s Third District,” Trump said in a statement. “She is a fearless leader, a defender of the America First Agenda, and a fighter against the Loser RINOs and Radical Democrats. She will continue to be tough on Crime, strong on Borders, and always protect our under-siege Second Amendment. Lauren has my Complete and Total Endorsement for her reelection!”

In their endorsement of Boebert, the Colorado Gazette noted: “In two years, Boebert has made herself the prime sponsor of a remarkable 32 bills that will gain traction if Republicans win control of the House in November.”

Below are a few examples of the bills that Boebert is part of:

“Trust the Science Act,” HR 7766, requires the secretary of the Interior to reissue regulations removing the gray wolf from the endangered species list.

“Protecting Free Speech Act,” HR 7641, “To terminate the Disinformation Governance Board of the Department of Homeland Security…”

The “I-70 Detour Act,” HR 7501, “to offset extended closures” along I-70.

“No Taxpayer Funds of Illegal Immigrants Act,” HR 6621

The “Active Forest Management, Forest Conservation, and Wildfire Prevention Act,” HR 4302, which would improve fire mitigation and attack beetle kill in the forests.

Earlier this week, Boebert introduced the “Fueling American Prosperity Act” to lower gas prices, increase domestic production, and restore American energy dominance.

“The solution to high gas prices is simple: drill baby drill. We have an abundance of domestic natural resources just waiting to be unleashed. America produces energy cleaner and safer than anyone else in the world. Sadly, the Biden regime decided to unilaterally shut down American energy dominance on day one and we are all paying the price at the pump. The Biden regime has proven time and time again that it would rather pander to extremists and rely on dirty foreign oil than safely produce American energy that creates American jobs. It’s time to restore American energy dominance and reduce gas prices which is exactly what my bill will do,” Boebert said in a statement.

“If the Biden regime fails to act, my bill will hold them accountable by imposing a hiring freeze at the Department of the Interior. If the American people cannot get affordable energy, the Biden regime should not be able to hire more bureaucrats to create more re
