House Speaker and Democrat California Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s House of Representatives just got rocked by a child sex scandal.
The Assistant to the Sergeant at Arms for the House has been arrested and hit with charges on ten felonies related to possessing child pornography.
Stefan Bieret, 41, was charged after police executed a search warrant on his home in Burke, Virginia, on Thursday, Fairfax Police said on its website.
“A 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged with ten felonies related to the possession of child pornography. The investigation began when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) was notified of a potentially illicit image being uploaded to a Dropbox account. NCMEC notified the Northern Virginia Washington, D.C. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of this CyberTipline lead. The owner of the Dropbox account was determined to reside in Fairfax County. Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau’s Missing and Exploited Persons Squad were notified in August and assumed the investigation. Detectives executed a search warrant on the Dropbox account and discovered additional images of child sexual abuse material,” the police department said.
“Subsequent search warrants led detectives to the identity of the owner of the Dropbox account as Stefan Bieret, 41, of Burke. Yesterday, detectives executed a search warrant on his home and recovered multiple electronics. Bieret was arrested and charged with ten counts of possession of child pornography. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held without bond,” it said.
“Detectives will continue to examine the digital evidence that was recovered from the scene and consult with the Office of the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney for any additional charges. Bieret is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, a jail official confirmed. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 22.
As a congressional employee, Bieret worked for the House Sergeant at Arms, the office responsible for maintaining order and security on the House side of the Capitol, along with fulfilling other ceremonial and support duties.
He also spent time working for the Capitol Police, serving in a civilian role in the Security Services Bureau front office from April 2019 to September 2020, a Capitol Police spokesperson confirmed.
The news comes on the same week that a Capitol Police officer was charged with helping a person involved in the January 6 incursion on the Capitol hide evidence.
Officer Michael A. Riley has been accused by prosecutors of contacting someone whose post he read on Facebook and tipping them off, The Associated Press reported.
The officer, who has been on the force for around 25 years, noticed the post with the photo of the person inside that Capitol on January 6 and advised them to remove it from Facebook.
Riley, 50, appeared virtually in federal court in Washington and was released with several conditions, including that he surrender any firearms and not travel outside the U.S. without permission from a judge. He was ordered to return to court later this month.
Riley, who responded to a report of a pipe bomb on Jan. 6 and has been a Capitol Police officer for about 25 years, had sent the person a message telling them that he was an officer with the police force who “agrees with your political stance,” an indictment against him says.
The indictment spells out how Riley sent dozens of messages to the unidentified person, encouraging them to remove incriminating photos and videos and telling them how the FBI was investigating to identify rioters.
