Federal agents raided the Washington home of Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar Monday, triggering an explosive confrontation with President Donald Trump.
The Minnesota progressive responded defiantly, accusing the administration of targeting political opponents while investigators pursued a criminal inquiry.
“I will not be silenced,” Omar declared, delivering her pointed warning after agents searched the property.
Homeland Security Investigations personnel arrived before dawn, reportedly around six o’clock, and executed a warrant authorized by a judge.
Witnesses saw investigators carrying boxes from the Northeast Washington residence, although officials have not publicly identified the materials seized.
The Justice Department confirmed the operation was connected to an ongoing federal criminal investigation, without announcing any charges.
“Today in the Washington, D.C. area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice.”
The department described the enforcement action as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation, declining to detail suspected offenses.
Fox News Digital reported investigators were examining immigration paperwork completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child.
Reuters and CBS News independently reported that the investigation concerns the congresswoman’s immigration records, citing sources familiar with proceedings.

Omar, born in Somalia, arrived in America during the 1990s and became a United States citizen in 2000.
The 44-year-old lawmaker has represented Minnesota’s heavily Democratic Fifth Congressional District since entering Congress in January 2019.
Her response immediately escalated the dispute from a federal investigative action into another bitter political confrontation.
“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar wrote.
“For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns,” she continued in her statement.
“This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation,” Omar alleged, assigning responsibility to Trump.
There is no evidence that the president personally directed the raid.
The administration previously acknowledged examining longstanding allegations concerning Omar’s immigration history, which she has repeatedly denied.
Vice President JD Vance discussed the matter earlier this year and said authorities would investigate potential wrongdoing.
“It certainly seems like something fishy is there,” Vance said, according to an earlier Daily Caller interview.
“But everyone is entitled to equal justice under the laws,” the vice president added while discussing the inquiry.
Border adviser Tom Homan confirmed in September that federal authorities were conducting an ongoing criminal investigation involving Omar.
The inquiry reportedly concerns immigration documents submitted during her childhood, not a publicly established finding of fraudulent citizenship.
Republican critics have previously alleged Omar entered an improper marriage involving a relative to facilitate immigration benefits.
Omar has repeatedly rejected that accusation, and no court has established the allegation as fact.
A judicially authorized search warrant requires a finding of probable cause, but does not establish criminal guilt.
Authorities have not announced an indictment, arrest, or specific criminal charge against the Minnesota congresswoman.
The investigation’s precise scope, potential targets, and supporting evidence remain undisclosed, leaving significant questions unanswered.
Republicans have long criticized Omar’s progressive positions on immigration enforcement, border security, Israel, and American foreign policy.
Omar was removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee in 2023 following Republican objections to previous statements concerning Israel.
More recently, scrutiny surrounding Minnesota’s major public assistance fraud prosecutions has fueled additional political controversy.
Some individuals connected to Democratic political circles have faced criminal charges, although that does not establish Omar’s involvement.
Republicans also questioned inconsistencies reported in financial disclosures involving assets associated with Omar and her husband.
Those questions are separate from the newly reported immigration investigation, and financial discrepancies alone do not prove misconduct.
The congresswoman is seeking another term in November against Republican challenger John Nagel, a former Minnesota state trooper.
