Police in Colorado say that an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who has been deported four times killed a mother and her son in a drunk driving incident last month.

The Washington Examiner reported that the “suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jose Guadalupe Menjivar-Alas, had been deported at least four times before he was arrested by the Broomfield Police Department on Dec. 15.

Fox News added: “Menjivar-Alas was driving a Toyota Tundra that crashed into a Mazda CX-5 driven by 47-year-old Melissa Powell. Powell’s son, Riordan, was also in the Mazda, and they were both killed in the crash.”

Menjivar-Alas was taken to a nearby hospital following the accident. After his release, he was placed under arrest and subsequently booked into the Broomfield County Jail. He is facing charges that include vehicular homicide due to reckless driving, vehicular homicide resulting from DUI, and being a habitual traffic offender, Fox News reported.

U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told Fox News Digital that Menjivar-Alas, a citizen of El Salvador, was deported from the U.S. four times.

“ICE records show that the subject has been previously removed and has no regard for immigration law,” an ICE spokesman said.

The report continued:

An immigration judge issued Menjivar-Alas’ first order of removal on April 14, 2009.

He was then removed from the U.S. in June 2009, June 2013, November 2014 and January 2015.

Despite being deported, Menjivar-Alas continued to make his way back into the country, where he was arrested numerous other times, and now allegedly killed a mother and her son.

According to ICE, the Denver field office lodged an immigration detainer with Broomfield County on Dec. 18, 2023.

“As part of its routine operations, ICE targets and arrests noncitizens who commit crimes and other individuals who have violated our nation’s immigration laws,” ICE said. “All noncitizens in violation of U.S. immigration law may be subject to arrest, detention and, if found removable by final order, removed from the United States, regardless of nationality.”

A study by the University of Syracuse published in June, however, found that ICE detainer requests have fallen dramatically under President Joe Biden.

“According to the latest records received from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the number of immigrant detainers sent to local law-enforcement agencies declined considerably at the start of the Biden administration,” the study said.

“Monthly detainer usage during the Trump administration climbed above 15,000 for three months during 2018, but generally averaged between 13,000 to 14,000 each month before falling during FY 2020 to around 10,000,’ the study added. “It fell sharply once President Biden assumed office, falling to 2,200 by March of 2021. Usage has climbed slightly since that low and reached 3,782 during September 2021.”

Critics say that indicates that the current administration is not nearly as serious about removing people in the country illegally as was former President Donald Trump.

Fox News host Harris Faulkner opened a segment of “Outnumbered” this week regarding the worsening illegal migrant crisis as the Biden administration shows no real interest in enforcing border security.

To begin, Faulkner told her co-hosts and guest that New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is calling in the state’s National Guard to assist with processing and taking care of tens of thousands of migrants that have flooded into New York City primarily as well as other parts of the state, amid complaints from both Democrats and Republicans.

But that said, “what’s going on in the streets of New York is a microcosm” of what is taking place daily along the U.S.-Mexico border, with the most recent trouble spot being Eagle Pass, Texas, Faulkner said in a video clip of scores of migrants wading across the Rio Grande.

She also noted that Border Patrol agents have been seen on video telling migrants they are free to do wherever they want in the country, adding that President Joe Biden obviously has no inclination about imposing border security even after millions of migrants have been allowed to cross illegally into the country since he took office.

“I don’t know how much vetting is being done because our Border Patrol agents are literally outnumbered at the border,” she continued, adding that they are processing migrants as quickly as possible but not deterring them from entering, which is actually their primary law enforcement function.
