It appears Kamala Harris has decided that it is time to do her job and make a trip to the Southern border, months after Joe Biden placed her in charge of the migrant crisis.
Harris was given the job of dealing with the root causes of the migration crisis and her failure to visit the border has led to her being criticized by Republicans, Democrats and a humiliating interview with NBC anchor Lester Holt.
But now sources say that she is headed to the United States and Mexico border with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Politico reported.
Harris and her team have repeatedly pushed back at criticism that neither she nor the president have gone to visit the U.S.-Mexico border, arguing that she is more focused on tackling the destabilizing conditions that are causing thousands of migrants from Central America to head to the border seeking refuge. That was the central message during her first foreign trip, a two-day visit to Mexico and Guatemala earlier this month. While there, Harris met with local officials and implored migrants not to make the journey across Mexico into the United States.
Her trip, however, was complicated by continued questions over whether she would go to the border to view the situation there. Harris’ response — in which she downplayed the need and noted that she also hadn’t visited Europe — only amplified the criticism.
Harris’ trip comes just days before former President Donald Trump is set to visit the border. Trump will be joined on that trip by Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott and a group of House Republicans.
The number of migrants arriving at the U.S. southern border has soared in the months since the Biden administration took office. In May, more than 180,000 migrants were apprehended at the border, according to monthly figures from Customs and Border Protection.
Under the Biden administration 18,800 unaccompanied migrant children crossed the border in March, a record as the previous highest month was 11,000 children in May 2019.
This comes after a whopping 56 Republican lawmakers are calling on Joe Biden to replace Kamala Harris as the official tasked with addressing the migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
GOP Rep. Glenn Grothman wrote a damaging letter directed to Harris, pointing out her obvious failure to visit the border: “The @VP STILL hasn’t visited the border. You can’t truly know the situation until you speak with people on the ground. I and 55 of my colleagues sent this letter to @POTUS demanding her removal from this position because 180k encounters, a 21-year high, is unacceptable.”
Grothman tore into Harris, saying: “Despite being in the midst of a border crisis this country has not seen in two decades, Vice President Harris has not yet shown adequate interest in observing this crisis first-hand. In the 85 days since the Vice President has been tasked with solving this crisis, she has yet to visit the border and meet with Border Patrol agents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, and local law enforcement officials.”

As for Harris, she was given the task of being the “border czar” more than 80 days ago and still has not made her way to the border of the U.S. and Mexico.
Biden announced on March 24 that Harris would lead the administration’s efforts at the border, and she has not visited one time to even hold a press event on the crisis.
Harris is 100% appointed to “handle” the border crisis and she has not visited the border one time since Biden named her.
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich recently took aim at Harris and said she has failed to respond to his invitation to tour the crisis at the US-Mexico border.
“I guess if you were a philosopher you would say no response is a very loud response because we’ve not received any response,” Brnovich said.
