Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen who shot three men in Kenosha, Wisconsin during a Black Lives Matter protest, killing two, was helped during his case by some famous faces.
Almost a year to the day that Rittenhouse was acquitted by a jury of his peers on all charges he was locked in prison with a $2 million bond over his head, NBC Chicago reported.
That bond was paid, in part, by “Silver Spoons” actor Ricky Schroder and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.
Rittenhouse was interviewed by The Washington Post after getting out from behind bars, thanks to the bond that was paid, and said he used pandemic relief money to give to a friend who purchased the gun he used on that fateful night.
“I got my $1,200 from the coronavirus Illinois unemployment, because I was on furlough from YMCA, and I got my first unemployment check so I was like, ‘Oh I’ll use this to buy it,'” he said in the interview.
He said that he did not regret being armed that night in Kenosha, “I had to protect myself,” he said.
“I would have died that night if I didn’t,” he said.
A friend of Rittenhouse spoke to police about how frightened the teen was of spending life in prison, and the video was obtained by CNN.
“The dude’s sweating like a pig. He’s just freaking out. His face is white. He’s like, ‘I’m going to jail for the rest of my life. I’m done.’ He’s just scared,” his friend, Dominick Black, said to a detective in the video.
“He’s like, ‘I just shot somebody! I just shot somebody!’ And I tried to ask him why, what happened, where are you, and he hung up the call,” he said.
But last week the jury delivered the verdict in the murder trial of Kyle Rittenhouse.
The jury delivered one verdict on all charges — not guilty.
He was found not guilty on all 5 counts.
Earlier last week, the defense team for Rittenhouse submitted a request for a mistrial.
The defense had motioned for a mistrial with prejudice alleging that the prosecution withheld drone footage from the night Rittenhouse killed two men and injured another in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
According to The New York Times, defense lawyer Corey Chirafisi made a separate request for a mistrial.
“We didn’t have the quality of evidence that the state had until the case had been closed,” he told Judge Bruce Schroeder.
