Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake tore into her Democratic party opponent Katie Hobbs this week, warning that Arizona will turn into “California 2.0” if the Democrat is elected governor.
During an interview on Fox News with Sean Hannity, Lake discussed the record number of migrants crossing the southern border, issues voters in the state care about the most, and promised to do everything she could to win in November’s midterms.
“She’s an open border globalist, let’s face it,” Lake told Hannity. “She wants to take what Newsom has done for California, which has destroyed that state, and do the same thing in Arizona. And that is why I think we have a movement because people know if we elect someone like Katie Hobbs we’re going into California 2.0. And nobody wants that. I will say the Californians are the ones who grab me at these events, who go, ‘Don’t let Arizona go. We uprooted our children, we uprooted our business, we moved our home. We moved here. We don’t want Arizona to turn into California.’ So some of our California friends that moved here, somebody’s waving in the crowd, they don’t want this to turn into [California], they fled California.”
Hobbs has refused to debate, so Lake has not missed an opportunity to call her out for it and remind voters of the radical policies she actually supports. Hannity called Hobbs and her refusal to debate Lake “cowardly.”
“Gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has now opened up a three-point lead against Democrat, gutless, cowardly Katie Hobbs. And the latest: Hobbs, who is currently collecting a paycheck as Arizona’s secretary of state, has only been showing up to work a grand total of 19 days in the last six months. I wish I had that job. She didn’t even enter office for the entire months of April and August and meanwhile, Hobbs is not exactly out there working hard on the campaign trail either. She has participated, and this is so unfair to you, the hardworking citizens, taxpayers of this state of Arizona — zero debates. She refuses to debate in both the primary and the general election. Katie Hobbs would rather hide in her basement bunker, just like her mentor, Joey Biden — he’s probably asleep during this show. Anyway, Kari Lake, meanwhile, has offered to debate any place, any time, anywhere. Hobbs can’t seem to muster up the courage,” Hannity said.

Lake suggested recently that she will declare an invasion to secure the state’s border with Mexico should she get elected in November.
“We just had the largest drug bust in the history of drug busts in Phoenix, Arizona this week. A million fentanyl pills. This is a poisoning of America. I don’t even call them drug overdoses. Because one pill. One half a pill can kill you,” Lake said.
Lake also spoke a few weeks ago at a rally with President Trump, where she also vowed to take action as governor to secure the border.
“It was awesome. It was electric. The crowd was so ecstatic to see President Trump. I think it’s truly one of the most patriotic parts of the country right there in Prescott Valley. And the crowd just ate up every word he had to say. And it really kind of reiterated what we need so much he did in this country. He talked about the border. He talked about how Joe Biden is really trying to drive this country into the ground. And that’s why it’s so important to have strong governors to make sure that we can save our individual states – it’s going to come down to that. Unfortunately, we can’t count on the federal government, nor should we,” Lake said.
“I think we’re going to win and we’re going to win big. All of the polls – we’ve had about four polls come out in the last week and we’re up anywhere between 11 and 14 points. We’ve been running No. 1 in this race since the day I threw my hat into the ring. And we have a real movement here in Arizona. The people are ready for an outsider. They’re ready for a change. And they’re ready for someone who’s finally going to represent the people of Arizona instead of the insider cronyism that’s been going on for so long. And I’ve got a 27-year relationship with the good people of this state, and they know I’m in it for the right reason because I want to get Arizona back to where we should be and we are going to see our best days ahead, Maria. We do need to start with that border. It is a mess. And frankly, our current governor, who I believe is the least popular Republican governor in the country, has done nothing to secure our border. He’s earned the nickname do-nothing Ducey, and the people are tired of it. We have to do it, we have to secure our border,” Lake added.
