A group of Republican lawmakers has sent an open letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi calling on her to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden.

The letter, which was sent on Monday evening, called on the speaker to hold Biden in account for abandoning hundreds of American citizens in Afghanistan following his disastrous withdrawal from the country.

“The American people must have full confidence in their Commander in Chief’s judgment and ability to protect our country and respond decisively to national security threats,” Reps. Claudia Tenney (R-NY), Ronny Jackson (R-TX), Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), Pete Sessions (R-TX), and Yvette Herrell (R-NM) wrote in the letter to Pelosi.

“We have no confidence in President Joseph R. Biden’s ability to carry out his duties as Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces,” they wrote.

“His unilateral, reckless decision to retreat from Afghanistan was done against the advice of military and national security experts and it has now put thousands of American military personnel, citizens, and Afghan allies in grave peril,” they added. “Tragically, at least 12 service members have lost their lives in the deadliest attack on U.S. forces in the last decade.”

“President Biden refuses to take responsibility for his actions and continues to mishandle the deteriorating situation at every step,” they said. “In addition, he has deliberately misled the American people in response to questions posed by the media. Free nations around the world look to the United States for leadership, and President Biden has proven definitively, and repeatedly, since this crisis began that he is not capable of effectively executing his duties as our Commander-in-Chief and leader of the free world.”

“As members of Congress, we have the duty to oversee the Executive Branch and provide for the common defense of the United States of America,” the letter concluded. “We do not have confidence in President Biden’s ability to continue serving as Commander-in-Chief. It is after much consideration and with heavy hearts at the current state of our nation that we call upon you, Speaker of the House of Representatives, to begin impeachment proceedings immediately.”

Efforts to remove Biden from office come following the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. Hundreds of Americans are estimated to have been left behind in the withdrawal, which was expedited after 13 U.S. service members were killed in a blast at the airport in Kabul.

Following the withdrawal, hundreds of Americans, and thousands of legal permanent residents of the United States, and allies remain trapped in an area now controlled by the Taliban.

Biden has come under scrutiny and condemnation for a disaster that he effectively took responsibility for when asked by a Fox News reporter.

Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), who was the White House physician under both President Obama and Trump, called on Biden to resign. He stated that Biden was no longer “cognitively prepared” to lead the country.

As reported on Conservative Brief, Jackson, who now serves as a U.S. representative, questioned Biden’s cognitive abilities in a series of tweets.

“That was embarrassing. There is something so obviously wrong with Biden’s cognitive fitness it was hard to watch,” he said after watching Biden’s speech on Thursday. “He should NOT remain President for another SECOND. We deserve better – MUCH better.”

“Biden’s speech yesterday was bizarre,” he said on Friday. “His cognitive decline is on full display, and the results have been disastrous. Our nation can’t take this ANY longer.”

And he took it further during an interview with Fox News host Jesse Waters, saying that he has been issuing this warning for a year.

“And of course, I hoped that was wrong, but I’m not,” he said.

“And we’re seeing it played out on the international stage right now. He’s destroying the reputation of this country. He’s getting Americans killed. There’s … American blood being shed in Afghanistan again, for the first time in many, many, many months. And it’s not going to be the last, you’re right,” he continued.
