Conservative host and lawyer Mark Levin took aim at President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice and Special Counsel Jack Smith after an audio recording of former President Donald Trump discussing what may have been classified information was leaked to CNN.
During the latest airing of Life, Liberty, and Levin, the host detailed several leaks that have been made to the media in Trump’s legal cases. Levin told his audience that the “back of the Department of Justice” needs to be “broken.”
“This department is destroying America. It’s destroying the 2024 election. It’s violating every norm, every tradition, everything it inherited to ensure that that department could be trustworthy and could be reliable,” Levin said. “And I want to say this. If we don’t break the back of the Department of Justice, and I will explain what I mean in a moment, it will destroy this country.”
Levin then read news articles from the New York Times, CNN, and Washington Post concerning leaks involving Trump’s legal battles before yelling, “Look at this!” while shaking stacks of paper in front of the camera.
“Who do these leaks help? Do they help Donald Trump? Do they help a single witness? It’s the federal government. It is the Biden Department of Justice. It is the Democrat Party’s Department of Justice that’s interfering in the election.
“Look at this! You see this?! These are the leaks! From grand juries to witnesses to Mar a Lago to the nature of the classified documents,” Levin adds. “Leak after leak after leak!”
“All roads go through the Department of Justice. All roads go through Jack Smith‘s office, the special counsel,” Levin screams. “Now the Trump lawyers need to wake the hell up to do something about this.”
A few weeks ago, Levin took to social media to lash out at the DOJ and offer Trump’s legal team some pro bono advice.
“There must have been several scores of leaks against Trump involving testimony, documents, audio, etc., and they’re all obviously coming from the government,” Levin wrote on the Gettr platform.
“Trump’s lawyers need to file an immediate motion, with the long list of leaks as an exhibit, asking that the entire case be dismissed because of prosecutorial misconduct and the government’s effort to influence the jury pool. Moreover, I would insist that the court determine whether DOJ has opened investigations into these felonies. THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN NOW!” he added.
Later, Levin also responded to a tweet that contained a link to a post from CNN host Kaitlin Collins, where the user wrote: “Help me with this: DOJ is prosecuting Trump for sharing information with a reporter when DOJ itself shared the same information with CNN.”
Levin wrote: “Jack Smith must go to prison for this.”
Smith charged Trump with 37 counts related to his handling of classified documents. If he is found guilty on all counts, Trump — who is President Joe Biden’s chief rival in next year’s presidential election — could face decades in prison.
According to the indictment, Trump allegedly showed classified documents to a number of people who did not have the proper security clearances on at least two separate occasions. The DOJ alleges that both instances took place at Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, N.J.
CNN reported on June 2 that federal prosecutors had “obtained an audio recording of a summer 2021 meeting in which former President Donald Trump acknowledges he held onto a classified Pentagon document about a potential attack on Iran, multiple sources told CNN, undercutting his argument that he declassified everything.”
