House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is apparently demanding Democrats return to Washington, D.C., soon after the Christmas holidays to vote in favor of giving her another term as Speaker.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy pointed out that Pelosi hasn’t recalled Democrats to Washington to vote on such a vital piece of legislation to help the American people.

Instead, the California Republican noted that she’s urging everyone’s return in early January to ensure she is confirmed as the House Speaker.

“Pelosi is fine with House Democrats skipping work if the votes are about legislation, but in January she will demand every Democrat show up—in person—to vote for her for Speaker,” McCarthy said. “Her message is clear: her power is more important than anything else.”

Indeed, Pelosi has been demanding her supporters return for the vote, which will happen among House members in attendance when Congress gavels back into session on January 3rd, following the holiday break.

Only those who are present for the vote can cast a ballot, and Pelosi, Politico reports, needs all the help she can get.

“Pelosi and her allies have been ratcheting up their lobbying campaign in recent weeks to ensure House Democrats are in the Capitol that first Sunday in January,” the outlet noted over the weekend. “Pelosi has had help from her top deputies, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC), according to several sources familiar with the effort. She and her supporters have also deployed former Obama administration alumni and big donors to help squeeze undecided Democrats, in addition to influential politicians and labor leaders in lawmakers’ home states.”

Even though Democrats appear to have narrowly defeated President Donald Trump to take the White House, Democrats lost big in the U.S. House.

They now hold just a 10-seat margin over Republicans, 222-212, with the results of just one race outstanding.

Last week, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany did not mince her words about Pelosi.

During an interview on “Fox & Friends,” McEnany said it was “irresponsible and “disgusting” that Pelosi has not worked with Republicans to pass coronavirus relief funds.

“Yeah, what’s the latest is Joe Manchin needs to go have a discussion with Nancy Pelosi who has been fundamentally unserious in a way that’s irresponsible and quite frankly disgusting, that she resumes the House, puts the House back in session, and what are the bills she puts forward?” McEnany began.

“About legalizing marijuana. About going after Tiger King and regulating the use of tigers. Instead of focusing on the American people and the relief that’s needed, her stimulus bill was chock-full of — guess what — mail-in voting regulations to try to secure Democrat power in the halls of Congress. While this president said, ‘Nancy Pelosi, you won’t negotiate with me? Well, guess what?” she added.

McEnany continued: “I will do protections from evictions. I will do more funding for unemployment insurance via executive order.’ He has been serious while Nancy Pelosi has been derelict in her duties. She does not deserve to be Speaker ever again.”
