Most people who watch Fox News are well-aware of the liberal hosts who use their shows to bash President Donald Trump.
But things kicked up a notch recently after some of the network’s biggest names are going after each other – and a new leaked report reveals that one top anti-Trump host could be fired.
According to a report from Vanity Fair, management at Fox News are experiencing what sources called a “Trump identity crisis” over Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky back in July.
A so-called “whistleblower” filed a complaint alleging potential illegal actions took place.
On this call, Trump reportedly asked the Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, over shady business dealings with a Ukrainian gas company.
This led to a major feud on-air between Fox News host Tucker Carlson and Shepherd Smith.
Vanity Fair reports that sources who took part in the meeting said that Fox warned Smith to stop attacking Trump and his colleagues or he could be fired.
Here’s what Vanity Fair reported:
The schism was evident this week as a feud erupted between afternoon anchor Shepard Smith and prime-time host Tucker Carlson.
It started Tuesday when Fox legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano told Smith on-air that Trump committed a “crime” by pressuring Ukraine’s president to get dirt on Biden. That night, Carlson brought on former Trump lawyer Joe diGenova, who called Napolitano a “fool” for claiming Trump broke the law.
Yesterday, Smith lashed back, calling Carlson “repugnant” for not defending Napolitano on air. (Trump himself is said to turn off Fox at 3 p.m., when Shep Smith airs.)
Seeking to quell the internecine strife before it carried into a third day, Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and president Jay Wallace communicated to Smith this morning to stop attacking Carlson, a person briefed on the conversation said.
“They said if he does it again, he’s off the air,” the source said.
Things have apparently gotten so bad at Fox that Smith was warned to back off, or he’ll be yanked off the air and fired.
Smith joined other left-wing media figures last week and attacked Trump for his call with Zelensky and the whistleblower complaint.
The White House released a 5-page transcript of the call, which does not mention anything about “quid pro quo” or the U.S. withholding aid to Ukraine if they did not investigate Biden.
The Department of Justice also announced that it opted not to investigate Trump over the phone call.
The Office of Intelligence Community Inspector General found that the “whistleblower” had a “political bias” in favor of one of Trump’s rivals in the 2020 presidential election.
And, adding even more fuel to the fire, the whistleblower filed a complaint about a call that they never heard, and Democrats want Trump impeached over a call that they also never heard.
Since then, a lot has happened.
One Republican has already publicly announced they support congressional Democrats’ impeachment inquiry against Trump.
Another Republican claims 30 Republican senators would vote to impeach Trump.
And Rush Limbaugh went public and revealed what Utah GOP Sen. Mitt Romney told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in secret about Trump.
