House Speaker Kevin McCarthy took to Twitter Thursday evening to criticize the Biden Justice Department’s decision to indict the president’s chief political rival, Donald Trump, but he didn’t get the response he may have hoped for from many users.

Trump announced on Thursday night that the Department of Justice has indicted him on charges connected to his handling of classified materials that were found at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida last August.

In a series of posts on his Truth Social, Trump said he has been summoned to federal court on Tuesday in Miami.

Thursday evening, after Trump’s announcement, McCarthy tweeted: “Today is indeed a dark day for the United States of America. It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades. I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with President Trump against this grave injustice. House Republicans will hold this brazen weaponization of power accountable.”

Some of the responses were brutal.

“You appear to missing a pair of balls,” one user wrote.

“This is a final true colors test on who really represents us. We are watching!!” wrote another.

“You f**king allowed it to happen!” conservative activist Gunther Eagleman added.

“All you do is yap! SHOW US!” said another.

“You need to go do something else pal. I have tried to have faith but nothing actually gets done. Our country is sliding into an abyss,” wrote another user.

Several of Trump’s congressional allies also posted responses to his indictment announcement.

“The SAME DAY [House Oversight Committee] is shown a document by the FBI showing evidence that Biden and his son were each paid $5 million dollars by a foreign national the DOJ indicts Trump. Coincidental? I think not,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., wrote, per Fox News.

House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik accused Democrats of meddling in the 2024 election: “The exact same day that the FBI is forced to turn over to Congress absolutely damning and credible allegations regarding Joe Biden’s illegal, egregious, and treasonous corruption, Joe Biden weaponizes his Department of Justice to indict Donald Trump,” she said.

“The American people are smart and understand this is the epitome of the illegal and unprecedented weaponization of the federal government against Joe Biden’s leading opponent, President Donald J. Trump. The radical Far Left will stop at nothing to interfere with the 2024 election in order to prop up the catastrophic presidency and desperate campaign of Joe Biden,” Stefanik added in a statement to Fox News.

Trump himself also responded on his Truth Social platform.

“The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax, even though Joe Biden has 1850 Boxes at the University of Delaware, additional Boxes in Chinatown, D.C., with even more Boxes at the University of Pennsylvania, and documents strewn all over his garage floor where he parks his Corvette, and which is “secured” by only a garage door that is paper thin, and open much of the time,” he wrote.

“Page 2: I have been summoned to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Miami on Tuesday, at 3 PM. I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States, who received far more votes than any sitting President in the History of our Country, and is currently leading, by far, all Candidates, both Democrat and Republican, in Polls of the 2024 Presidential Election. I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!” he added.

“Page 3: This is indeed a DARK DAY for the United States of America. We are a Country in serious and rapid Decline, but together we will Make America Great Again!
