Former first lady Melania Trump made a rare public appearance earlier this month, attending a naturalization ceremony at the National Archives. Her remarks came as her husband, former President Donald Trump, faces charges related to classified documents.

Melania Trump, a Slovenia-born former model, is the second foreign-born first lady after Louisa, the London-born wife of former President John Quincy Adams. Melania is also the only first lady to become a naturalized U.S. citizen, having emigrated to New York City on a worker visa in 1996, the New York Post reported.

“How fortunate to be with the naturalizing individuals and their families as they recite the Oath of Allegiance and become Americans before our great nation’s founding documents,” she told the crowd at the Archives.

In July, the federal judge overseeing his case ruled that Trump will stand trial on May 20, 2024, on charges that he mishandled classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

“U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon appeared to split the difference between prosecutors’ request for a December 2023 trial date and Trump’s request to postpone the trial until after the November 2024 election,” Politico reported.

Melania Trump said she is 100 percent behind her husband’s 2024 presidential run and added that it would be a “privilege” to be back in the White House again.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, she told the outlet that she looks forward to serving with former President Trump in “restoring hope for the future and leading America with love and strength” during a second term.

Mrs. Trump expressed her commitment to prioritize initiatives focused on children’s well-being and development if she has the opportunity to serve as first lady again in 2024. She emphasized the importance of providing children with the necessary support and resources to help them reach their full potential, the outlet said.

“My husband achieved tremendous success in his first administration, and he can lead us toward greatness and prosperity once again,” she told the outlet.

“He has my support, and we look forward to restoring hope for the future and leading America with love and strength,” she said.

“The former first lady’s comments came after she hosted a private luncheon at Mar-a-Lago on May 6, marking the fifth anniversary of the creation of her ‘Be Best’ initiative during her time in the White House, which focused on the well-being of America’s children, opioid abuse, and online safety,” Fox News Digital reported.

After leaving Washington D.C., Melania has expanded the “Be Best” initiative by creating “Fostering the Future,” which focuses on providing computer science scholarships to children aging out of the foster care system. The goal is to equip them with the necessary academic background to secure technology-based jobs, empowering them to become self-sufficient and productive members of society.

“Since leaving Washington D.C., my commitment to the foster community has grown stronger,” she said, highlighting her efforts in obtaining scholarships for children in foster care with the assistance of her team, partners, and the public.

“At the present time, there are more than 400,000 children in the foster care system, and there is less than a 3% chance of former foster children completing their college education. In fact, many end up on the street, homeless,” she said.

“My objective is to reduce the gap and increase access to higher education for those who leave the foster care system,” she said at the time.

Melania Trump’s “Fostering the Future” initiative has already granted two university-level scholarships to individuals from the foster care community to study technology.

“I have faith that an education-based foundation will provide these individuals with the skills needed to secure employment and achieve financial stability,” she told the outlet.

She added that if her husband wins again next year, she will “prioritize the well-being and development of children as I have always done.”

“My focus would continue to be creating a safe and nurturing space for children to learn, grow, and thrive,” she said. “If additional problems arise, I will take the time to study them and understand their root causes.”

“My goal would be to ensure that every child has the support and resources they need to reach their full potential,” she noted further.
