Former President Donald Trump opened up recently about how he’s been put through the wringer by state and federal prosecutors who seem bent on sending him to prison for the rest of his life in what his supporters see as purely political persecution.

And while he has not necessarily shown much emotion about it publicly, the “hellish” times he is going through now have been difficult even for him, according to sources close to the former first couple.

Sources who spoke to Page Six said that Donald Trump is being comforted by his wife, who has been described as a “secret weapon” to help him get through his ordeals.

“Melania is being credited by his friends with keeping President Trump ‘calm and focused’ amid the hellish week of his being indicted for the third time,” a source close to the former first couple told the outlet. “Friends whisper these last few weeks have been hard on Trump, and although he always presents a tough front, these constant legal assaults are affecting his day-to-day life.”

“Melania’s even better than his regular golf games at keeping his temper in check,” the person said. “She provides a peaceful life for him when he needs it.”

The source went on to say that the former president eats breakfast daily with Melania and their son Barron and that she “turns the news off at times so they can watch something else together, and she frowns over telephone or social media use at the table.”

Crucially, the source told Page Six that Melania Trump backs her husband’s third bid for the White House.

“She backs his bid for a second term completely and listens to him when he needs someone he can trust,” they reportedly said. “Melania is obsessively private, she never gossips with even her closest friends, so Trump knows when they talk about important things, it’s just between them.”

During his recent sit-down interview with SiriusXM podcaster Megyn Kelly, Trump unexpectedly opened up about Melania Trump.

Trump and Kelly discussed Melania and Barron, their youngest son.

Trump told Kelly, “She’s doing very well,” when she asked about Melania. “She’s very strong, very even-keeled, and she’s a very good woman, as you know. She was a very popular first lady. I mean, I’d go out to rallies, and they have pictures of Melania with ‘We love our first lady.’”

Kelly asked him, “Melania’s so mysterious to so many. What do people misunderstand about her?”

Trump replied, “I think part of the beauty is that mystery.” He then hearkened back to a past interview with Barbara Walters, who told him that she always wanted to interview the legendary Hollywood recluse Greta Garbo, to whom he compared Melania.

“She was a great actress… she had a great beauty, but she was very reclusive, never did an interview,” Trump said wistfully.

“I don’t see Melania as like that, but she is much more… you know she’s introspective, and she’s confident,” he continued that she didn’t need “to be ripped apart for no reason. She doesn’t need to be out there. She’s got confidence, she’s got a lot of self-confidence.”

“The people really like her,” he added. “And she was a really good first lady.”

In a rare interview with Fox News in May, Melania told the outlet she is looking forward to serving the nation again and “restoring hope for the future and leading America with love and strength.”

“My husband achieved tremendous success in his first administration, and he can lead us toward greatness and prosperity once again,” she told Fox, emphasizing her commitment to prioritize initiatives around children’s well-being and development.

“He has my support, and we look forward to restoring hope for the future and leading America with love and strength,” she said.
