Former first lady Melania Trump issued a statement over the weekend thanking supporters for their well wishes following the death and funeral of her mother, Amalija Knavs, who passed away at the age of 78.

“On behalf of my family, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the love and support that you have showered upon us throughout this journey of loss and grief,” Melania wrote in an X post. “We will cherish the beautiful memories of my beloved mother and forever keep her light in our hearts.”

Melania’s mother and her father, Viktor Knavs, 79, have both been living at Mar-a-Lago in recent years. The former first lady had been absent from public events with former President Donald Trump in recent weeks as she took care of her ailing mother.

Her mother’s profound affection for her grandson Barron, who is seventeen years old, was something she enthusiastically discussed. During the eulogy, Melania talked about how her mother improved his life by showering him with love, tender care, and unwavering devotion.

“Her nurturing spirit had no limits, creating a legacy that will last for generations,’ the former First Lady said of her mother, who passed away on January 9, aged 78. ‘With her beauty and impeccable sense of style, she turned heads. But it was her unwavering dedication and hard work that made her exceptional,” Melania said about her mother.

Her voice faltered as she spoke from the pulpit at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, uttering the words, “May my cherished mother find eternal peace.”

“In her presence, we were enveloped in the warmth of her embrace.” Melania expressed her eternal gratitude for the “unparalleled affection she bestowed on us.” She described her as “the best mother, wife, grandmother, and mother-in-law, a true beacon of love and luxury in our lives.”

The former first lady broke the sad news of her mother’s passing on January 9.

Melania highlighted her mother’s beauty and sense of style but said that it was her “unwavering dedication and hard work that truly made her exceptional.” She shared insights into her mother’s resilience: “Like a string that holds everything together, she balanced the demands of motherhood with grace and poise.”

Speaking about her mother’s professional life, Melania noted, “She worked tirelessly, pushing herself beyond her limits, fueled by the fire within. She is a true inspiration, a role model to me, and so many.” She also spoke of her mother’s passion for cooking, “transporting every dish, which she curated with her spices from her garden, to new heights.”

Melania reminisced about her introduction to the world of fashion through her mother’s stories: “She effortlessly introduced me to the charming world of fashion with tales of her glamorous travels to Paris and neighboring European capitals.” She described these experiences as transformative, inspiring her journey into the fashion industry.

Reading from Ecclesiastes, which touched on the everlasting nature of a mother’s love and the ebb and flow of life, the eulogy came to a close. Based on her remarks, Melania came across as a strong, elegant, and steadfast supporter of her family, as well as someone who inspired others.

Earlier this month, Donald Trump revealed that Melania was not present at the family’s holiday festivities because she was taking care of her sick mother.

At a New Year’s Eve celebration at his Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach, Florida, Donald announced that his wife was attending to her mother, who was “very ill” at a hospital in Miami.

“Hopefully, she will be recovering because she was very ill,” he said during a speech at the event, a video of which was posted on X. “I just want to say hello to the first lady; we just spoke down in Miami at a great hospital. And hopefully, it will be OK. But it’s a tough one. She sends her love to everyone. She knows about 95% of the people in the room, and we want to wish Amalija gets better as quickly as possible.”
