Former first lady Michelle Obama is not as popular among Democrats that she, and others, think that she is.
In a new poll it was found that one in three Democrats do not want her on the presidential ticket with Joe Biden, even if he were to choose her.
A CBS/YouGov poll discovered that 65 percent of Democrats support Michelle Obama’s selection, if she were to consent to being the vice presidential choice.
But a surprising 35 percent of Democrats polled said that they would oppose the former first lady being on the Democrat presidential ticket.
What was even more stunning was that 70 percent of black Democrats would be in favor of a Biden-Obama ticket, but 30 percent do not.
As for independent voters, Obama’s support plummets to 60 percent, with a whopping 40 percent who are against her selection as vice president.
The numbers are still supportive, but they are not the overwhelming numbers and support that the media and many top Democrats would have you believe.
Biden has said many times that he would pick Obama to be his vice presidential pick if she were to accept the nod.
“I’d take her in a heartbeat,” he said in an interview with CBS Pittsburgh. “She’s brilliant. She knows the way around. She is a really fine woman. The Obamas are great friends.”
“I don’t think she has any desire to live near the White House again,” he said in the interview.
“I’ll commit to that [it will] be a woman because it is very important that my administration look like the public, look like the nation,” Biden said.
“And there will be, committed that there will be a woman of color on the Supreme Court, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a vice president, as well,” he said.
The poll came after a committee named “Draft Michelle Obama” began a pressure campaign for Biden to pick Obama as his partner.
“Joe Biden has said he would choose Michelle Obama as his running mate ‘in a heartbeat.’ The aim of this campaign is to build on the substantial grassroots support for a potential Michelle Obama candidacy and help garner media attention for a vice-presidential nominee who has the power to beat Donald Trump,” the group said.
“The Committee to Draft Michelle Obama firmly believes that Ms. Obama will not only benefit the Democratic ticket this November but also help lead this country to be more just and caring. However strongly we support Ms. Obama as Vice President Biden’s running mate, we will transfer our resolve to whoever joins the ticket to defeat the most dangerous incumbent in the history of our nation,” it said.
“With a historic battle to reclaim the soul of America looming this November and the peril caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic, it remains in the best interest of the Democratic Party to nominate a vice-presidential candidate who has the trust of the American people, a vision to lead our nation forward and empathy for the challenges faced by all Americans,” it said.
Qualifications? She is female, black and the wife of the former president. Those are the only things Democrats need to make her their choice.
