House Speaker and California Rep. Nancy Pelosi knows she is fighting a battle she cannot win in her bid to keep the Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump in her hands as long as possible.
The fact is she knows what the Constitution calls for and she is aware of the lack of power she has in what the Senate does.
What Speaker Pelosi wants to do is to deny President Trump of the acquittal he is likely to get in the Senate for as long as possible.
But The White House believes that she will cave because she has no case and she does have to follow the Constitution whether she likes it or not.
“She will yield. There’s no way she can hold this position,” Vice President Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff Marc Short said Sunday. “We think her case is going nowhere.’’
“I don‘t know when they became so certain about due process after trampling the president’s rights,” he said to “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace.
“The American people are tired of the sham,“ he said on “Meet The Press.” “They’re tired of this whole thing. We’re anxious to get back to the work of the American people. So, you know, to the extent that there’s a prolonged trial, we’re not anxious for that.“
The fact is the longer this plays out the worse it is for the Democrats and Speaker Pelosi should know that.
She is able to see the polls that show support for impeachment dwindling and President Trump’s approval ratings improving.
Recent polls have shown the president defeating his 2020 Democrat rivals in head to head matchups.
Speaker Pelosi has claimed that she has an airtight case against President Trump, but if that is correct then why are she, and Senate Minority Leader and New York Sen. Charles Schumer wrangling for more witnesses?
They want more witnesses because they are praying that someone says something that makes their partisan impeachment look worthwhile.
And if she comprehends what the Constitution says then she should know that the Senate, led by Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, does not need her to send them the Articles of Impeachment.
It is the sole responsibility of the Senate to have an impeachment trial and it is able to do it on its own, sans getting the Articles of Impeachment from the House.
“She’ll eventually send the articles because public opinion will crush the Democrats,” South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham said.
But what they want in to keep the Articles of Impeachment long enough to get four RINO (Republicans In Name Only) Senators like Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Mitt Romney and one other, to demand witnesses.
But if they do that, they would be committing the same career suicide that the Democrats in President Trump districts did when they voted for the impeachment.
At some point Speaker Pelosi has to get that she and the Democrats have no power in this trial and allow America to get on with the business of improving the nation.
