A nonprofit group in New York City has been caught on camera telling a person who is not a citizen to vote illegally in the mayoral election for Zohran Mamdani.
O’Keefe Media Group (OMG) released video of an undercover journalist posing as an undocumented immigrant asking the head of the nonprofit how to vote and who to vote for.
The director is said to have told the journalist how to vote even though he wasn’t a citizen and suggested which candidate to vote for by saying he should vote for the one whose name starts with “M.”
James O’Keefe, who started the undercover investigative journalism group, put the video on X with the caption: “La Jornada Executive Director Pedro Rodriguez Tells Undercover OMG Journalist Posing as an Unregistered Migrant to ‘Vote for the Guy That Starts with ‘M’ – Despite 501(c)(3) Regulation Prohibiting Political Activity by Tax-Exempt Organizations.” Rodriguez admits to knowing that the person is “not registered” before telling him how to vote, which could be against federal and state election laws.
It is against the law for non-citizens to vote in New York City elections, but the voter ID systems are not very strong either.
The video shows the head of the nonprofit “La Jornada,” which says it helps immigrants with their paperwork and legal needs, talking to the journalist who is pretending to be an immigrant.
Rodriguez asked Mike Casey, the correspondent, “Are you an immigrant?” They brought me here to vote. People told me to come here to get information about voting. I was given two, dos locations. Please forgive me; I don’t speak Spanish.
Rodriguez said, “No, this is perfect for me,” and then asked the undercover journalist when he registered to vote. “I did not, I didn’t sign anything.” Casey said, “They just told me to come here to vote.” “You’re not registered?” The director says, “Okay.” OMG said that even though the journalist pretending to be an undocumented immigrant was not legally allowed to vote, he was still told to go vote at a community college. Rodriguez told the man, “The guy who starts with ‘M’.”
There was only one candidate in the race: Zohran Mamdani. He won by a landslide on Tuesday to become the next mayor.
When O’Keefe and his team later talked to Rodriguez, the head of the nonprofit, he denied telling the undercover journalist to vote for Mamdani, even though the reporter had clearly pretended to be an illegal immigrant in the recorded conversation.
Mamdani, who calls himself a “democratic socialist,” is now going to be in charge of New York City, which is the financial center of the United States and maybe the free world.
Just the News says it has gotten its hands on internal papers from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) that show how the group’s New York City chapter, which includes Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, plans to push him to put in place sweeping anti-Israel policies in all areas of city government and public life.
Mamdani has been a member of the DSA for a long time. He is one of nine “New York State Socialists in Office” and won against former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa on Tuesday. The group, which is very anti-Israel, was a big part of his campaign, supporting him in both the Democratic primary and the general election.
During the race for mayor, Mamdani tried to downplay his ties to the group’s more radical and revolutionary platform. According to Politico, the NYC DSA branch actively helped him do this by giving him public support to make his campaign look more moderate than it really was.
The “Socialists in Office” website says that the group is made up of “DSA-endorsed elected officials who work together in the New York State Legislature to advance a socialist vision for working-class people across our state.” Mamdani is one of the people in the group.
