Obama Releases List Of Candidate Endorsements, Snubs Ocasio-Cortez

Former President Barack Obama released a new round of midterm election endorsements on Monday, but one notable Democrat was not on the list.

According to Fox News, Obama endorsed 118 Democrats across the country, except for New York socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

He did not endorse her campaign for re-election.

In a statement on Monday, Obama announced his first wave of support for the Democrats running for federal, statewide, and state legislative offices from 17 states.

“I’m proud to endorse this diverse and hopeful collection of thoughtful, empathetic, and highly qualified Democrats,” Obama said. “Together, these candidates will help us redeem our country’s promise by sticking up for working people, restoring fairness and opportunity to our system, and fighting for the good of all Americans — not just those at the top.”

Obama said the group of candidates makes him “optimistic not just about our party’s chances in November but about our country’s future so long after that.”

“So if you’re in one of their districts or states, make sure you vote for them this fall,” Obama said. “And if you can, vote early — by mail or in person.”

“Our country’s future hangs on this election, and it won’t be easy,” he said. “But pandemics have a way of cutting through a lot of noise and spin to remind us of what is real, and what is important.”

He added: “Elections matter. And we need Americans of all political stripes to get involved in our politics and our public life like never before.”

It’s certainly worth wondering why Obama snubbed AOC.

Maybe it’s because Ocasio-Cortez is all-in on the “defund the police” movement, which one could argue is even too radical for Obama.

Late last month, Ocasio-Cortez said the proposed $1 billion in cuts to the New York Police Department were “not enough.

“Defunding police means defunding police. It does not mean budget tricks or funny math. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so the exact same police remain in schools,” the congresswoman said in a statement.

“It does not mean counting overtime cuts as cuts, even as NYPD ignores every attempt by City Council to curb overtime spending and overspends on overtime anyways,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “If these reports are accurate, then these proposed ‘cuts’ to the NYPD budget are a disingenuous illusion. This is not a victory. The fight to defund policing continues.”

What’s perplexing is that Obama endorsed AOC back in 2018, and her platform is still the same today.

She is a socialist who supports abolishing ICE, impeaching President Donald Trump, raising the minimum wage to $15/hr, government-sponsored “free” Medicare for everyone, and “free” college tuition.
