A New York Democrat who lost a race last year to a Republican is warning that the party is set for major losses during this year’s midterm while also noting that she believes President Biden is being abused and manipulated by those in his administration.
Former Nassau County Executive Laura Curran blasted her party and the president during a Saturday appearance on Fox News’ “Watters World,” which was guest-hosted by “Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade.
“Unfortunately, my party, the Democratic Party, just conveys weakness right now. It almost feels like elder abuse with what’s going on with President Biden. He has a hard time putting a sentence together. I think everyone gets nervous listening to him talk; he’s going to mess up,” she predicted.
“What we need always, and especially now, is someone who exudes confidence and competence. Someone who sets a reassuring tone. And we’re not getting that at the top right now, and unfortunately, I think your previous guest, Karl Rove, is absolutely right. I think it’s going to be a bloodbath for the Democrats in the midterms,” Curran continued.
In 2020, Nassau County residents overwhelmingly supported Biden, but last year they switched parties and voting overwhelmingly for Republicans, The New York Times pointed out in a Nov. 8 story:

Off-year elections are often hard for the party of the sitting president, but the results defied candidate expectations and bolstered arguments that President Biden’s unpopularity and the Democratic Party’s internecine battles were undermining its viability in the suburbs.
Curran was just the third Democrat in 80 years to become a Nassau County executive, but it was short-lived.
“In conversations with more than a dozen Nassau County voters this week, they cited their overall disapproval of the president, their distaste for vaccine mandates and a fear of funds being diverted from the police as factors in their decision to vote Republican. Concerns over Mr. Biden’s handling of Israel also arose several times,” the Times reported.
Lizette Sonsini, 56, was one of the many Nassau County voters to abandon Democrats.
“I don’t like the president, and the Democrats are spending too much money on things like infrastructure, when really we need politicians who are going to bring more money back into this country,” she told the Times.
“Maybe if Democrats see how we’re voting in these local elections, they will see we’re not happy with the way things are going.”
That hasn’t happened yet, however, as Democrats on the national level have continued to push massive spending, woke cultural issues, and ‘green’ policy options even as prices continue to spiral upward.
“As a Democrat, I think it’s really important to have a strong, two-party system. I think it’s good for democracy. I don’t think it should be one-party rule either way, but unfortunately it seems like we’re giving the Republicans ammunition just to shoot us because we exude this weakness,” Curran noted
“People want to be reassured that government is there for them, not telling them what to do, but making sure the roads are in good shape, making sure the sewage is properly run, making sure that public safety is where it should be. That’s what people are expecting. Unfortunately, my party is not delivering this right now,” she said.
In an interview with Times, she noted as well: “There was a wave, there’s no doubt about it, even for an unapologetically pro-business, pro-public safety Democrat.”
