For some bizarre reason, Joe Biden has claimed that the Department of Defense has been blocking his team from “all of the information” that they need during the transition period.
But as if turns out, the Pentagon has said this is “patently false.”
“My team needs a clear picture of our force posture around the world and our operations to deter our enemies. We need full visibility into the budget planning underway at the Defense Department and other agencies in order to avoid any window of confusion or catch up that our adversaries may try to exploit,” Biden claimed earlier this week.
Biden added: “But as I said from the beginning, we have encountered roadblocks from the political leadership at the Department of Defense and the Office of Management and Budget. Right now, we just aren’t getting all the information that we need from the outgoing administration in key national security areas. It’s nothing short, in my view, of irresponsibility.”
Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller apparently got wind of Biden’s comments and slammed the former vice president for spreading false information.
Miller said the department has actually given Biden’s team more access to information and resources than they originally requested.
“The Department of Defense has conducted 164 interviews with over 400 officials, and provided over 5,000 pages of documents – far more than initially requested by Biden’s transition team,” Miller said in a statement. “DOD’s efforts already surpass those of recent administrations with over three weeks to go and we continue to schedule additional meetings for the remainder of the transition and answer any and all requests for information in our purview.”
“Our DOD political and career officials have been working with the utmost professionalism to support transition activities in a compressed time schedule and they will continue to do so in a transparent and collegial manner that upholds the finest traditions of the Department,” the statement continued. “The American people expect nothing less and that is what I remain committed to.”
This is the second time in a week where Biden peddled this lie and the Defense Department had to go public and call him out for lying.
Last week, Biden said: “The Defense Department won’t even brief us on many things.”
The Pentagon went public again and noted Biden’s claim was “patently false,” adding: “The department will continue to provide the information and meetings necessary to ensure the continuity of government. As we’ve said, meetings will begin again in early January, and in fact, we’ve begun scheduling them.”
Miller said the Pentagon and Biden’s transition team had agreed to take a break for the holidays, but Team Biden said they never agreed to that.
This pretty much comes down to the Pentagon says they have exceeded their obligations in briefing Biden’s team and giving them access to more information than they even requested.
And Biden’s team is trying to whine to the media by conjuring up a story that the Trump administration is “blocking” them and not being helpful.
It’s easy to see what’s going on here.
