Police in Colorado say they are actively investigating allegations that GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert physically struck her ex-husband in the face during a heated altercation at a restaurant near Denver on Saturday night.
The Denver Post reports that the congresswoman allegedly punched ex-husband Jayson Boebert two times at the Miner’s Claim restaurant in Slit.
Slit Police Chief Mike Kite confirmed that an investigation into the incident is active and ongoing. Reports said police arrived on the scene following the alleged altercation, but no arrests were made. The congresswoman has denied that she struck her ex-husband.
“This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I’m moving,” Boebert said in a statement from her campaign manager to the outlet. “I didn’t punch Jason in the face, and no one was arrested.”
“I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options,” she added.
Jayson Boebert told police when they arrived that he and his ex-wife were having a heated discussion but added that he did not want to press any charges.
“I don’t want nothing to happen,” he told The Post in a brief phone interview. “Her and I were working through a difficult conversation.”
Jayson blamed himself for the couple’s “devastating” divorce in September, denying that she left him “over fame and a new lifestyle.”

The Daily Caller added:
The congresswoman has not shied away from dating since her divorce. She was kicked out of a performance of “Beetlejuice: The Musical” in September for “causing a disturbance” by allegedly vaping, singing loudly and recording the performance on her phone. Three theatergoers complained about the pair’s behavior before they were escorted out of Temple Hoyne Bell Theater in Denver.
The UK’s Daily Mail, which first reported the alleged altercation, said Boebert struck Jayson after he made “lewd advances.” She denied she struck her ex-husband but did admit to the outlet that she put her hand on his face “to try to keep him back.”
He allegedly started “being disrespectful” and becoming “lewd” and then he “made a motion” towards his ex-wife “to grab her,” according to her aide who spoke to the Daily Beast.
The aide claimed the move was “aggressive, not romantic.” Lauren then tried to keep him back and “put her hand in his face, put her hand on his nose.”
It’s not clear why the two were meeting up.
The fiery Republican announced late last month she’ll be running for the state’s 4th Congressional District instead of the 3rd, where she faces a tougher challenge following the state’s redistricting after the 2020 Census.
The congresswoman would have had to face Republican attorney Jeffrey Hurd in the primary and Democrat Adam Frisch in the general, who nearly ousted Boebert by 546 votes in 2022. Instead, she will run for Rep. Ken Buck’s seat, a Republican who recently decided to retire at the end of his term.
“It’s the right move for me personally, and it’s the right decision for those who support our conservative movement. This is the right move for Colorado for us,” said Boebert. “2024 is going to be tough, we cannot lose the third, and Colorado’s fourth district is hungry for an unapologetic defender of freedom with a proven track record of standing strong for conservative principles. We have to protect our majority in the House, win the Senate, and win the presidency.”
Boebert accused “Hollywood elites and progressive money groups” of trying to “buy” her current district after Frisch brought in a large amount of campaign money this year, the Daily Caller reported. According to Federal Election Commission filings, Frisch has raised a total of $7.8 million this year and has $4.3 million cash on hand.
