House Democrats Flock To Support GOP Immigrant Crime Bill

It appears that some Democrats have gotten the message from voters when it comes to illegal immigration.

A stunning 60 Democrats joined with Republicans to pass legislation in the House brought by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace titled Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act.

The bill passed by a vote of 274-145 with more than a quarter of the minority party supporting it on Thursday.

“We are fed up with headlines about women losing their lives or becoming victims of assailants who trespassed into our country illegally under the Biden-Harris border crisis,” the representative said. “This legislation sends a strong message: if you are an illegal who has committed acts of violence against women, you will not find sanctuary here.”

But the 158 Democrats who voted against it claimed that it demonized illegal immigrants.

“Here we are again, debating another partisan bill that fearmongers about immigrants instead of working together to fix the immigration system,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) said as the legislation was being debated. “I probably shouldn’t be too surprised. Scapegoating immigrants and attempting to weaponize the crime of domestic violence is appearing to be a time-honored tradition for Republicans.”

Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York said that Republicans were trying to “scapegoat and fearmonger about immigrants.”

“The redundancies in this bill,” he said, “all but assure that no additional dangerous individuals would face immigration consequences if it were to become law.”

But Mace stood strong during the debate.

“Our country has been ravaged by a horror of illegal immigrants…violently raping American women and girls,” she said. “I know the lifelong scars, the irreversible scars, these heinous crimes leave behind.”

In December, Mace stated that an Illinois man allegedly attacked her on the U.S. Capitol grounds due to her stance on prohibiting trans-identifying men from occupying women’s spaces.

“I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women,” she said in a post on X. “Capitol police have arrested him. All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women!”

Mace referred to her attempts to prevent trans-identifying men from using women’s restrooms, particularly in the United States Capitol and on all federal property.

“There’s no amount of bullying and threats on my life that they’ve made this week that’s going to stop me from this,” Mace, who has said she was a victim of rape, domestic violence, and abuse, said in late November, promising to “fight like hell” for the protection of women and girls.

The Capitol Police told The Daily Wire that they arrested a 33-year-old James McIntyre for allegedly assaulting a U.S. Congressmember. McIntyre is now facing charges of assaulting a government official, according to the department.

“Just before 6:00 p.m., the Member of Congress’ office reported an incident in the Rayburn House Office Building,” the Capitol Police told The Daily Wire. “House Division officers, and agents with the Threat Assessment Section, tracked down the suspect.”

McIntyre went through security screening before entering the congressional buildings, where the incident reportedly occurred. The Capitol Police specifically said that “the Rayburn House Office Building was open to the public at the time of the incident.”

Last month, Mace introduced a resolution that would prohibit individuals born as men from entering and using women-only facilities. Her measure comes as the country’s first transgender, Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-Del.), prepares to take office in January.

“If being a feminist makes me an extremist, I’m totally here for it,” she said in response to a reporter’s question after she introduced her measure.
